This is a relatively long-term project.
Presently in the "Research" stage: Looking for opinions - preferably on stuff that you've actually HEARD
Given the following constraints:
STUFF THAT I'VE HEARD AND LIKED:
Goldenear Technology: Triton 2+ (May be able to find gently-used Triton-1 or Triton-2 for around my budget or 2+ with Trade-in on my existing ELACs & sub)
Vandersteen Quatro Carbon: Great in a good listening room, but outta' my league / budget. Anybody heard the 2CE Signatures or 3A Models?
Klipsch Heritage Series: Forte III or Cornwall IV. But these are a bit on the "BIG" side and probably not WAF-friendly
Bang & Olufson Beolab Pentas: back in the 1980's
OTHER IDEAS:
Keep my ELACs and Add a PAIR of NEW REL T9i or Used S/510 or better for more Low-End Grunt and easier placement 1:1 with satellites
Keep ALL of my speakers and Upgrade the cables to Silver and add High-Performance Audiophile Fuses! (just kidding....if you know me, you KNOW that I think that stuff is mostly B.S.)
ROLL MY OWN: Build from plans / kits. There is a place near Madison (not too far from home / nice road-trip) that sells pre-fab kits [Madisound?] including some Linkwitz DIY stuff
Thinking of taking a day and going to AXPONA this year - any ideas on whose speakers to check-out?
Presently in the "Research" stage: Looking for opinions - preferably on stuff that you've actually HEARD
Given the following constraints:
- LOCATION = LIVING ROOM: There will be furniture in the way, and SO will probably want them shoved close to a wall / in corners of room. Stuff that requires 3-feet out from walls and/or a dedicated listening room and/or acoustical treatments (other than minor ones) will not work
- ROOM SIZE = Approximately 19'-3" X 11'-2"
- USE = STEREO / MUSIC: Any HT usage will be secondary.
- SETUP: 2 Main Speakers (Plus 1 or 2 Optional Subs, depending on recommendation)
- NEW OR USED: Either way is OK by me. I'd probably get more "bang-for-the-buck" with some higher-end but gently used stuff, so long as it's not really rare and hard-to-find. Also, from what I've seen - people who buy "the good stuff" generally tend to take pretty good care of it.
- TIME-FRAME = Probably 6 months to a year from now. (I have some funds scraped-up, but it will take a while before I'm ready to "pull the trigger".)
- UPGRADE = Whatever direction I go, I would have to be a SUBSTANTIAL upgrade to what I have now (which is already pretty decent)
- AMPLIFICATION = Solid-State. My XPA-2 Gen3 can handle almost ANY load / sensitivity "throw the barbells around"... ;-)
