So I have been thinking about getting a mesh wifi for the house. I have been looking at the orbi AC2200.
Does anyone use this system? Do you like it? Other thoughts?

So I have been thinking about getting a mesh wifi for the house. I have been looking at the orbi AC2200. Does anyone use this system? Do you like it? Other thoughts? I've replaced a few of these systems with ASUS AI-Mesh. Much better distance (coverage) and speed.

I have the Linksys Velop mesh system and it works great - no more coverage issues.

I use the Ubiquiti Amplifi HD mesh router and love it. amplifi.com/ if I choose to change my internet service, (my current one sucks) do I use this in place of the stock router they usually provide or do I add it to it?

I‘m pleased with my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4, EdgeSwitch 8 with PoE+, Cloud Key Gen2 Plus with local video storage and UAP-HD-AP Access Point. Their software enables me to see 150+ SSIDs in my residential neighborhood and tune my Wi-Fi channels to ensure the highest throughput. My single Access Point covers the 3 levels of our house, garage and yard. It also handles more client connections than I’ll ever have. unifi-hd.ui.com/This year I plan to incorporate video surveillance (wired cameras only) with local cloud storage on a separate virtual network. NOTE: Some of these devices are not for the average consumer as you need to understand networking.

Yes, you will come straight out of your modem to main cube box. Then you can use the ear antenneas in regualr outlets to spread the mesh across your home.

I had the Orbi AC 2200 for a few months. The challenge I had was the lack of ability to assign a device to 2.4 vs 5G. Some older devices require a 2.4 network and they won't work with the Orbi. The Budweiser goal light for NHL games is an example of one of these devices. If you don't have one you need one just because!
The other issue I had was lag on my streaming services since I couldn't prioritize which devices should get the bandwidth. I typically see 400MBPS+ wireless download yet the stream would have problems. I switched to the Unifi AC LR AP's and I have zero issues. You can get one for $100 and that will cover a good portion of your home if not the entire home all operated by the Unifi app on your phone. If you go with two or three AP's then spend the extra $100 for the cloud key gen1 and enjoy seamless handoff when walking around the house and yard. You can spend the same or less money and get a product that is way better than a residential mesh system

We have Google Wifi (3 pods) and it's decent. I have a gigabit switch connected to the primary pod in order to connect to ethernet devices in the house.
At first, I was very uncomfortable with the mobile app only control (coming from a monster ASUS router) but the app definitely offers all the controls I need regarding static IP assignments, port controls and some prioritization; the app is fairly elegant in design. Obviously, Google's solution comes with some potentially scary privacy/data harvesting concerns so that's a problem.
I have heard users being frustrated with the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz compatibility/control with Google Wifi but it's not been an issue here.
I did set up a Google wifi system for a friend who wanted a lot of coverage on their 3 acre urban farm. I rolled out a total of 11 pods on his property about 2 years ago and they absolutely love the coverage.
Another feature I like with Google's system is that I can manage all the Google wifi networks I've set up for other people.
I would prefer an Ubiquiti system but that's a ways out for me.

I'll give a recommendation for Unifi Ubiquity gear. I love it and it is pretty easy to configure. I consider it enterprise gear and capability for consumer prices.

What he said ^^ The Ubiquiti stuff is really nice. I'm running four access points and have great coverage.

The AmpliFI Alien sure looks cool, but I don't see any USB ports. Am I missing something? I have a USB hard drive attached to my current router and like that capability.

I use the Ubiquiti Amplifi HD mesh router and love it. amplifi.com/ My sys admin swears by Ubiquiti. Love what they do. Was recommending them on my custom days. Still do. Their network along with Packedge, and Araknis, they do the job nicely.
