Recently thanks to seasonal depression, crappy cold weather and a lack of motivation, I finally got around to setting up some retro or vintage components I’ve had collecting dust. My expectations were low given my big speaker and big amp setups I’ve enjoyed over the years.
A friend repaired, modded and recapped a 1994 McIntosh MC275 Commemorative Edition which I have paired with the matching C22 Commemorative Edition. For speakers I pulled out a pair of 1995 Paradigm Studio 20 v2 and for a source I used the Marantz SA-10.
After getting speakers placed and listening to a variety of classical, jazz and vocal CDs the one thing that stuck with me. A sense of disappointment when the music ended. I’m really enjoying the nearfield system and the convincing soundstage produced in a tiny bedroom.
The thing that surprised me so much was how much I am finding myself immersed in the music and how the Paradigm & McIntosh tube combo compliment each other. Hopefully as I continue building on this system I look forward to using the MM phono stage in the c22.
Other than the CD player all of the other gear is 25 year old technology but I’m finding it to be more musical than many of the audio offerings from manufacturers today.
To stay circa 1995 I am using a pair of bi-wire Audioquest Gibraltar speaker cables.

Good deal man. Will be by tomorrow to finish wiring the last couple outlets/cut in boxes and hopefully get time to check out the "new" rig.
Remember you've got an open invite to FL for most of Feb when we're down there. Got an extra bedroom and it's low 80s all month usually.

Thanks again brother! That circuit and Maestro outlet rock that you installed. Greatly appreciated on many levels!

You’re making me a bit jealous Scott. Away for a few days. When I got home I needed to whip out the snowblower! Bill

You’re making me a bit jealous Scott. Away for a few days. When I got home I needed to whip out the snowblower! Bill I hear that. I don't really mind the snow so much. For big storms I break out the heavy duty snow blower (track drive Honda w/ elec start) and the lighter stuff I can usually clear with a Stihl backpack leaf blower. ha
It's the sunshine that I have a hard time doing without for weeks on end. I can work from anywhere with a laptop and phone; I am much more productive when in the sunshine.

The retro rig sounded great man! Restored my faith in the old Paradigm speakers. They always performed so much better than speakers at their price point.
The Mc tubes were a great complement. Another testament to getting great sound without spending a ton. Used older Mc gear isn't an arm and a leg for their SQ. Scott

I'd just like to have a bedroom big enough for a stereo system......let that be a lesson to the youngsters, stay in school kids and get an education.....or learn about hedge funds or whatever the hell they are called...
