Looks like my not yet 4 year old Sony tv has died. Was working this morning but now it won’t power on. I’ve done the typical troubleshooting and no luck. Looking for suggestions on new 4K TVs. I just want a nice picture, 65” size and NOT a Sony. What do people like in the $1000 to $2000 range?

I'm very happy with my Samsung 75" and 82" QLED's. Picture/colors are beautiful and set-up a snap. I love the simple little remote.

I think you can get an LG OLED at the higher end of your price point. I personally think those have the best PQ out of all sets.

LG OLED if you want the absolute best picture. Samsung QLED for an LCD. TCL for value or Vizio.
Check RTINGS.com for reviews.

After reading reviews and hearing suggestions I'm torn between an OLED LG and QLED Samsung. Has anyone compared the two technologies? Also, my room is typically med to high light

Also, my room is typically med to high light The OLED sets don't have a backlight. They use an emissive tecnology. The blacks are black and incredible. They have a couple of issues....they don't get as bright as the current LCD sets. They can have burn in if left too long on a static image, though that has improved over the years. The QLED Samsung picture IMO is not as good as the OLED. However, burn in is not an issue. They get very bright which is helpful with HDR. They should be better in rooms with alot of light.

LG OLED. Nothing else comes close.
The Sony OLED line uses panels made by LG.

You're kidding right??? It would be easier to define the universe than recommend a TV today. So many great ones. What do you want? OLED? IPS? Really care how the smarts in your smart TV behave? TVs are the most amazingly cheap considering what you get in like forevers. See Rtings.com and learn how these TVs stack up. Samsung, Sony, LG, Vizio just announced recently some good ones. Hisense and TCL on the cheap beers price. It is hard to miss on a great TV you practically stole price.

That's why I came here for advice. Its a jungle out there! I have narrowed things down though. Going to look at Samsung QLED and LG OLED sets this afternoon.

Watch out for burn in on the LGs but hopefully by now that is sorted. The QLED is otherworldly in its experience. Colors that are POW, ZOWIE, BAMM, but that is how amazing this TV is. Some may find it a bit more vivid than reality perhaps, but I am a huge fan of this TV series. Samsung is out for the championship. I saw a big Samsung QLED, and most exciting TV I have seen to date. Absolutely check them out. Also when you get the one you want. Consider Calibration to get the most out of it. It is worth it. Or at least use the settings that Rtings.com uses as a base line.
By the way I don't get paid from Rtings.com for talking about them. Their tests are the most comprehensive to date I have seen.

If you can't afford or are unwilling to pay for a professional calibration, start with the Rtings or Cnet settings and purchase a calibration blu-ray disc and tweak from there. The Spears & Munsil disc is good as well as the Disney WOW if you can find it at a reasonable price. Spears & Munsil also has a 4K version, but I have not purchased it.

Wait one year. Go with micro-LED and it needs an ATSC 3.0 tuner.

At the top end of your budget, I’d highly recommend an LG OLED for two reasons. First and foremost is the unparalleled overall picture quality. Second being support for Dolby Vision.
If Dolby Vision is important to you, then the Samsung would be disqualified by default because Samsung does not and will not support it. Likewise, if HDR10+ is important to you, you won’t find that supported on an LG nor almost any other. For my money, I would clearly opt for Dolby Vision support.
Another thing to consider would be “off angle viewing”. The OLED panels are far better in this regard over most LED panels.
In the middle of your budget, I’d also highly recommend the Vizio “Quantum X” series LED. The picture quality on these sets approach that of OLED and are quite a bit cheaper. I recently installed a PX-65 G1 for a family member and was blown away by how amazing the picture looked. With myself being an OLED owner, that says a lot.
Additionally, Vizio is the only manufacturer (that I know of) that supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. So, that's an added benefit.
Lastly, the risk of burn-in on an OLED panel is real, but rare, and there are documented reports of a few owners having experienced this. However, I personally own two OLED sets (the 55C6 now has 16,000 hours of use) and I have ZERO signs of burn-in on either panel. As with anything, it all depends on how much care you take and how much effort you put into setting them up properly before you use them regularly.

A friend just picked up the LG OLED C9 series from Costco and loves it. They double the manufacturers warranty and have in the past thrown in two more years if you use the Costco Visa card. I believe the current special is $99 three year Square Trade warranty. It was on sale at Christmas for two hundred dollars less than it is now. If you go for the Samsung, The Big Screen Store will double the manufacturers warranty, will add additional years for fifty bucks a year, and they price match. Their home delivery and setup is very good too.

It was a tough choice between that and the Samsung Q80. I really couldn't have made a bad choice between the two, but I felt the Samsung as compared to the LG had a slight haze in the blacks and the colors were almost too vivid. Though this may really just be how they were set up for display. As for C9 vs C8 in the LGs, I had a very hard time finding any difference that justified the cost difference. My wife, who really didn't care, but whose opinion I value as a reality check had a slight preference for the Samsung. It was the vivid colors that she liked. I couldn't finish mounting it last night and tonight I have dinner plans so it won't get a chance to view my new purchase till this weekend. The wait is going to drive me nuts. I am just blown away at the picture quality of these new sets. My Sony was very nice, but I have a feeling once I get this one all set up I'm going to see a big improvement. Between Disney WOW and Spears and Munsil which would be the preferred calibration disc?

Between Disney WOW and Spears and Munsil which would be the preferred calibration disc? Congrats! I'm sure you will love this set. I own both calibration discs and they both basically lead to the same conclusion. The Disney disc is definitely more consumer friendly. Easy to navigate. The Spears and Munsil is more technical perhaps, but a little harder to get around. I like them both, but tend to migrate towards the Disney disc. I have not bought or tried the new 4K Spears and Munsil. It does not come with an instruction manual, that is online. I don't believe it comes with a blue filter, because they were having issues with blue color selection. Reviews state that it is hard to navigate unless you really know what you are doing. I will probably end up picking it up eventually, maybe as they improve and add to it.

An interesting video 8k QLED vs 4K OLED.
LG has the rights to OLED and I believe Sony licenses from LG. The Sony actually has a better picture than LG. Anyhoot, here's a blind test of 8k QLED technology up against 4k OLED technology.
