I am very interested in the XPA-DR1 mono blocks. I have two Adcom GFA-555's in bridged mono mode that are driving Klipsch Chorus 11 speakers. I want to replace the Adcoms with two XPA-DR1 mono blocks. I would like reviews from owners of the XPA-DR1. I have never owned an Emotiva amp. Thanks

Very very well liked amp by those who purchased them. I haven't heard anyone regret buying them.

I have the DR-2 amp and I could not be happier with it. It pushes my Mirage OMD-28's with ease and it stays strong and clear to any volume level I could ever imagine listening at. I can't find a single thing that I do not like about mine, and I would guess the DR-1 would be if anything slightly better since it is a true mono-block.

I'm the owner of three DR1s and have no regrets. They really make my Magnepans sing. Very quick, solid bass and sweet highs. The right and left DR1s replaced a well known, high end "expensive" stereo amplifier and they blew it away. Granted I went from 150 WPC to 650 WPC, but I really feel these DR1s bested that stereo amp in every way. BTW the two DR1s together were not even half the cost of that single stereo amp.

Like the other comments, I have two DR-1's for the two main front channels as well as a DR-3 for C and surrounds. These amps are awesome and highly unlikely you would regret purchasing them. They are light weight relatively, run extremely cool and have unbridled dynamics. Very smooth and refined. Been meaning to finish up a formal review of them but have just been too busy to get past my first draft. I have owned Adcoms many years ago and believe the DR series to be in a completely different league of performance.

Do you think you could describe any distinctions between the DR3 and The DR1's with music and movies ? Honestly I've never made a direct comparison between the two. Once the DR3 arrive I just put it into place and let it rip or amp that is. However I will say this, the difference between the DR3 and XPA-3 Gen 2 was very noticeable and different and at least to my ears considerably better. This doesn't answer your question but for now the best I can come up with. Perhaps some day just for grins and giggles I might swap out the DR-1's for DR-3 for some music listening but its not high on my list of experiments. If you are considering one of these I doubt you would be disappointed.

Thanks In 2018, I upgrade my system with two DR-1s and a Thirteen 1.6s. I was running two Carver TFM-45 amplifiers bridged mono for twenty six years. One day, a technician friend repaired a pair of circa 1986 Denon monoblocks and asked me if I would play them hard to test them. I did, for about three months. When he took them back, I ordered myself two DR1s. Monoblocks sound so much better. Take it from a 26 year bridged mono veteran, you will not be disappointed with the DR1s. I am glad my buddy introduced me to monoblocks!

I have the 1.7is which the XPA-2 drives very well but like a good addict I want more! LOL. I've also been eyeing Vincent gear which is close to twice the price but I like saving money and I haven't disliked anything Emotiva yet.

Emotifan, the DR1s replaced a McIntosh 152. Now, to be fair, I went from trying to drive them with 150 WPC to 650 WPC. However, the difference was incredible and instantly noticed. The only negative I noticed when I switched was the highs were pretty bright. But I put a 0.5 ohm resistor on the tweeters and that tamed them down nicely.
Pallpoul, I'm using a Schiit Freya+ tube preamp with my DR1s. It seems like a great match to my ears.

At the time I was running a Marantz AV8802A and the difference was not that noticeable. But I have since gone to the RMC-1 and it sounds amazing with the DR-2 amp. I have no idea if being fully balanced all the way through made the difference or not, but I couldn’t be any happier with my setup. Like others have said the amps run very cool and are much lighter than the XPA-2. You will not be disappointed at all with the DR amps.

BTW, I just mounted my 1.7is on Mye Stands and am blown away. It's the best 600.00 you'll ever spend. The transformation is mind blowing.

The 2 XPA-DR1 mono blocks are amazing. Glad I went with them. They sound brighter than the two Adcom 555's I was using as mono blocks. Much greater dynamic range, the bass is tighter and more prevalent. The Adcoms would heat up when loaded up where the DR1's stay cool at the high volumes. Glad I decided to go with the DR1's and not spend the money to upgrade the Adcoms.

LOL, Still waiting for the card! We here at the Society will have to take your word for it as Emotiva has yet to notify Membership Services that you’re now a certified owner of at least one set of Mono-blocks. Member Services, under my direct orders, has been directed to dispatch, with haste, your welcome package to the Society of Mono-block Owners Inc. I’m so very sorry for the delay. novisnick CEO MBS
