Started on these today. Using 1x4 pine. I will have 2 inches of Owens Corning in each with an air gap with what's left. They will probably be a bit spaced off the wall as well, but I haven't decided on how I'm mounting them yet. The ceiling ones will be hung with eye bolts. After they are put together, I plan to find some duck canvas that matches my walls to wrap the frames with.

This is the if not one of the best things you can do to improve the sound of your system/room. The first three panels I built I used pine but they tend to warp depending on the season and the humidity levels, so my final four i build using MDF, I used Roxul SafeNsound which is meant for absorbing sound, my ceiling panels I used eye bolts and s hooks for mounting, and I wrapped mine with el cheapo Walmart sheets haha. The wall ones I mounted using pircture frame hooks and a simple screw into the wall, I also caut little blocks of wood to attach to the back of the frames in all four corners which keeps the panels from touching the wall and a gap behind them.

Looks like you're very well organized with production-line like efficiency!
As creimes said, acoustic treatments offer great improvement in the enjoyment of our audio systems! After working through to getting the most perfect speaker placement - the only truly FREE audio improvement we can experience - acoustical treatment plays the next big role and provides many hours of fun and learning.
I hope you post some pics of the final result.

And, being an engineering mind... I've always worked on things like an assembly line. Haha. It's just how my mind works. Next up are some panels to tame some room nulls. I'm also considering keeping my (2) 12 inch subs as sealed and using those for the crossover from the mains and installing a baffle in the ceiling to mount my (4) 18s in an infinite baffle config (for LFE) . I had those (4) 18s in an infinite baffle in my theatre room. I have never heard anything better than infinite baffle. It's truly amazing.

When I built mine I used 1x4 pine and Roxul SafeNsound and they did make a difference. Due to the layout of my room the sub-woofers are kind of in a corner so I made floor to ceiling corner bass traps and it really cleaned up the LFE. It used to be kind of muddy sounding at times but no longer.

(Corner traps) I have considered specific mass loaded traps as well to treat the nulls, but I don't know. I'm pretty pleased with how it sounds.

Yeah the tail lights didn't look right but I couldn't think of another mid engine small car. Mark That's because those are either aftermarket or from a JDM 1993 model. Can't remember. Fun little car. I need to sell it alone with most everything else in my garage

Finally wrapped up the sound panel project phase 1. I still have to hang the ceiling panels, but the first and second reflection point on the side walls is done. Attachments:

In GENERAL? Use the most open-weave fabric you can manage. Too dense a weave will turn your panel into a reflector NOT an absorber. Spacing from wall is a good idea. www.fabricacousticpanels.com/product/acoustic-transparent-fabric/If you can't easily breath thru it, it's too dense. Drawing is from Google Sketchup. This was before I had pocket screws. Important part is the corners where pegs are attached which PROTRUDE from the frame as much as one inch for wall spacing. Get some felt pads for the ends and you won't mar your wall..... I'd also use wood NARROWER than the intended OC material. That way, you wrap your cover and staple on the backside which give a 'Soft Corner' on the front......

I'm thinking of having the "Songs From The Wood" album cover (Jethro Tull) printed at 48 x 48 on canvas & making an absorber from it. I've photoshopped the album title off the painting & think it would work well in my listening room. But the cheapest printing place I've found so far wanted $250 to do the print. Anyone know of less expensive printers?

I doubt you will get a good, high resolution image by that method. And getting it printed as a 48x48 on either canvas or some COARSE weave material?
Not en everyday project and probably WILL cost a bundle. I had a custom frame made for about a 15" x 60" Panorama (over 400DPI, JPG) and that cost.....well a LOT. And I had some other stuff
like UV proof 'glass' and had it hard mounted on foamcore....(acide free everything). Framers are MERCILESS.
For the OP? I see absorbers. But NO diffusion. Any thought to some DIY diffusion

Thanks, @jmilton, but I don't think they're for me:
1. They don't print YOUR photos, only theirs 2. Their prices are higher than the company I found that DOES print your photos
But I appreciate the link!
Thanks - Boom
