So what, if anything, are you doing to prepare?

I guess you need to make sure you have food in the freezer in case you need to stay home. At work, make sure to wash hands for twenty seconds after touching door knobs. Use the paper towel on the door handle. Use hand sanitizer after pumping gas. Keep your hands away from your face. Avoid people who are sneezing. Keep surfaces clean, your desk at work. Phones, keyboards.
Not sure what else you can do.....I’m sure I’m missing something.

I didn't think twice about a recent auction site purchase, fully aware that it was coming from China. My colleagues and I are always talking about the stock market and retirement preparedness as well as the impact to the current market due to the virus and I came to the instant realization that perhaps that item that I ordered may warrant special attention. Never can be too certain, but I will keep my family away from it and I will attempt to sterilize as much as possible in rubber gloves, hot soapy water followed by alcohol wipes before I bring it into the house. I think the risk potential is low for the virus to remain viral for the time it takes to travel across continents and make it's way to my doorstep, but nonetheless, I will take the extra precaution. In fact, now that I think about it, I will likely just place it on the garage shelf in quarantine until I forget about it and remember it again .

I'm drinking a lot of Coronas, to keep the virus at bay, lol....ok, so seriously, just the same old, keeping an eye on things, doing the obvious, experts are saying it's going to hit around 70% of the Earth population but most will be fine...depends on age and hygiene...

Only things to add: Keep your hands away from your eyes and nose, If you're sick, stay home (even if you're not carrying the virus, you are more susceptible)

I typically follow some basics in public, and I'll keep doing those things. That includes ideally using a paper towel to exit a public bathroom (open the door with it and do a 3-pointer to dispose of it in the trash as I exit). I also keep my distance from people, and if I see someone coughing/sneezing - I keep my distance. And, if someone in my house is sick...they don't get a hug or kiss...they get a distant imitation hug and I blow them a kiss and an "I love you".
But, I am also thinking of carrying sanitizing wipes when I go to the grocery to wipe the cart handle down. I recall when my son got rotovirus as an infant...there's nasty stuff on those handles.
I hear some people saying they will get masks, but I also hear those are good at keeping a sick person from spreading a disease but not very good at protecting someone from a disease. So, I don't plan to go that far unless I am the sick one.

Keep surfaces clean, your desk at work. Work? What is this strange thing you refer to? I'm retired, and I've not heard that word for a while...confused... Mark

The local TV anchor here said "treat it like hurricane preparedness." Good advice, I think... So today I:
1. Bought my usual 60 gallons of gas for the generator. Don't need it for coronavirus? Hurricane season is here in a couple of months. Don't need it for hurricane season? Burn it in the cars.
2. Ordered enough prescriptions to last me 30 days. I keep them in the fridge - they don't go bad, and I'll need them sooner or later anyway.
3. Bought enough canned & non-perishable food to last me at least two weeks. Again - hurricane season's coming anyway.
4. Refilled my empty propane cylinders - enough to cook on the grill for a couple of weeks. They'll last through hurricane season.
5. Filled up some water cans from the tap with enough potable water to last a couple of weeks.
6. Tried to buy some alcohol-based hand wipes, but everyone's sold out. So I just got a bunch of washcloths and some 60% alcohol in a pumping dispenser.
7. Tried to buy some HEPA-95 respirators, but everyone's sold out. So I just got some painting respirators & will have a buddy loan me some HEPA cartridges from the refinery where he works.
8. Got a few hundred extra from the bank in cash. Good to have anyway.
None of these cost me any significant money. All the stuff I bought, I'll eventually use for something else anyway. Cheap insurance!

This corona-virus has been overly hyped IMO. After all, corona-viruses have been around for centuries, in another era it was called the common cold. I can't recall that last time I had a cold but it has been a very long time. This 'pandemic' is already showing signs of having run it course. It'll probably be back next fall & winter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus

Boomzilla Living here Florida, I'm usually at 50% Hurricane prepared in the off-Hurricane season, and I usually start ramping up to my 100% prepared by June. Gulf Coast states in this case should be better prepared than other states if your local news anchor is correct in his advice.

Three things I would suggest:
A dose of common sense Keep up with the news Get with your primary care physician if you have any high risk factors associated with illness.

What makes this stand out is: (1) Unlike the flu, there isn't any vaccine available yet. Much is still unknown. (2) What will probably be more destructive than the virus itself is damage caused by panic. Maybe even more fatalities due to panic than the actual disease. Prudence and common sense goes a long way!

Yeah, still young and in (relatively) good health so I'll sit out the hand-wringing and worrying (stress isn't good for overall health). I'll start paying attention to this "crisis" when it gets close to affecting 0.1% of the population.

Ignoring the health issues, the worry that is on alot of people's minds is the tanking of their 401K's. Nothing you can really do about it, but it's there.
