I'm trying to figure out why they closed the schools in my area for 2-3 weeks. Not 1 confirmed case... This is mind boggling. I hope the simulations in this linked article works. If shows various mathematically-based scenarios for social distancing impacts. The virus spread is really just a probability game...if there's one person out there walking around with it, the odds are they will interact with someone and might pass it on. Then there are 2, then 4, then 8...and so on. Anyway, try this link and see if the simulations work. They did for me yesterday but are not all working today: -->CLICK HERE<---Mark

Any truth to this? My mother is receiving news from Korea from other relatives that Korea has now successfully treated the Coronavirus using, of all things, Oxygen therapy. I told my mother to be analytical and don't fall for cons or scams asking for money: www.sgtreport.com/2020/02/south-korea-says-its-successfully-treating-coronavirus-patient-with-natural-oxygen-therapy/This article is dated back a month but she's receiving reports from Korean relatives today. Looking for "breaking news" if there's any. Meanwhile, I see certain studies are underway in the U.S. abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/study-begins-us-test-coronavirus-treatment-69208901Clip from above ABC article: "Doctors give patients fluids and pain relievers to try to ease the symptoms, which can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. In the case of those who are severely ill, doctors use ventilators to help them breathe or a machine that pumps and oxygenates their blood outside the body, easing the burden on the heart and lungs." And another article: www.coronavirustoday.com/coronavirus-breaking-news/#/kevzara-may-help-covid-19-patients"On March 16, 2020, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Sanofi announced they have started a clinical program evaluating Kevzara® (sarilumab) in patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 infection. Kevzara is a fully-human monoclonal antibody that inhibits the interleukin-6 (IL-6) pathway by binding and blocking the IL-6 receptor. IL-6 may play a role in driving the overactive inflammatory response in the lungs of patients who are severely or critically ill with COVID-19. The role of IL-6 is supported by preliminary data from a single-arm study in China using another IL-6 receptor antibody."

Define "successfully treat". Because you can do many things to try and improve your (overall health) so that your immune system is strenghtend, which in turn allows it to fight off infections, bacteria, virus etc.
So... eat healthy. Lots of fresh veggies, drop the sugary drinks and fast food, reduce your intake of milk and milk products. Increase your intake of vit c, zinc (don't overdose this!), fresh air (and yes, sunshine too). Note that none of that is "curing" or "treating" anything and if you're sick definitely GET HELP, but yes it will improve your overall health and your ability to fight off this virus, or the seasonal flu etc.

Of course Politifact already touched upon this subject. Ironically, the study in Nebraska underway which is "treating" patients with Oxygen therapy must not receive their science from Politifact. By successfully treat I don't think meant a "cure" especially a forever cure as Politifact stated because microbes evolve. As far as eat healthy etc I agree 100% with you. Saw a meme recently and I chuckled at the grocery store yesterday when the meme came to mind. The meme illustrated what people think important. The entire paper section of TP was empty as well as processed or preserved canned food but the fresh vegetables and fruits or produce section looked untouched being fully stocked. Amazing how man ailments may be "treated" with eating right and exercising. Likewise, how many people want to treat the symptom rather than the cause of becoming ill to begin with. Not saying that all illness are caused by unhealthy life styles but we should at least give our own natural immune systems a chance to fight off some of these illnesses. Enjoy, William

Agreed. Get outside and take a walk. Eat healthy food and take any vitamins that you've prescribed for yourself. A strong immune system, and in this case, healthy lungs, are your best defense.

The only thing I found was that "a single" patient was treated with oxygen and recovered. Hardly something I would rely on, but would look into.
Since the report came in mid-February, I would have expected some sort of further news by now.

I can understand why the "processed" foods were the first to go.
People are worried that the food supply and deliveries will be compromised. Where the fresh fruits and vegetables in your refrigerator won't last you four to six weeks, canned goods can.
A large can of "Beanie Weenies" will supply most of your daily caloric need, provide a "comfort food" experience, and insure against spoilage.

Since the report came in mid-February, I would have expected some sort of further news by now. In the very same post a study by Nebraska began a couple of days ago which is administering oxygen therapy. I posted what I had because I was looking for any source of information as to why today Koreans are claiming they have "successfully treated" the Coronavirus? Not looking to prove oxygen therapy was just looking for any source of information which might be responsible for such claims coming from within Korea today. My immediate family includes several "elderly" ladies and often I have to "research" things because of sensational claims made to them which stirs up a lot of excitement. Enjoy, William

Yup, my mom is 86, and I had to tell her to stop coming in to work (2 days/week receptionist), but she's not old, just ask her.

...My immediate family includes several "elderly" ladies and often I have to "research" things because of sensational claims made to them which stirs up a lot of excitement... Ain't it the truth - I'm forever telling my wife that just because some talking head said it on TV doesn't make it so! Her latest tear is that we have to get and then destroy every credit card receipt because "otherwise someone might be able to use them to get into our accounts." Sigh... Also, the Governor here just closed all restaurants, bars, and cinemas for two weeks. Yesterday, I made a gumbo & froze meal-sized servings. Today, I made a beer-can chicken. If we run out of food, I can always catch crawfish in the bayou behind the subdivision, and fish the nearby lakes. What a long, strange trip it’s been!

U.S. volunteer receives first shot of experimental coronavirus vaccineLooks like the first lab rats are receiving a vaccine. That is the good news. The bad news is that it more than likely won't be released for over a year from now. Reminds me of a friend that one day expressed his anxiety over dying. I think it was during a mid east conflict or a rumor of a war far off. I tried to cheer him up and said well we all die. A lot of people think they know when the world will end 2880 A.D. He said, wha? I said yeah, there's an asteroid named 2880 and it's supposed to hit in the year 2880 A.D. The problem is that it is so far away in time we can't do anything now to prepare and it is so far away in distance that even if we could our efforts might be futile. He looked rather gloom. So I said, cheer up buddy, if it is any consolation to you you'll be dead long before then. Guess I need to practice expressing my compassion better? Dunno, but anyhoot, looks like several research labs are scrambling for vaccinations.

No TP or paper products at Costco again. Plenty of bread, milk, eggs, Some food products were low, but not many.
People I spoke to in line were fully convinced that this would last the rest of their lives and we are in the new normal.
Crazy

Crazy Well tell them if they want to know what the new normal will be, just watch the first episode of Walking Dead and then go on from there.

The majority of people will accept just about anything at face value and not question it. They will fall in line and comply. For some reason that reminds me of the line: The meek shall inherit the earth; the rest of us are going to the stars.

Around lunch today the Governor of Louisiana announced that all restaurants, bars, and cinemas in the state are closed until April 13. Around 4 pm he announced that the closure would probably last for at least an additional six weeks, and perhaps longer. All residents over 50 are advised to shelter in place and avoid contact with anyone if possible. Louisiana now has the highest infection rate, per capita, in the nation. We also have fewer hospital beds per capita, and flattening the curve is the best strategy for avoiding large numbers of residents dying at home.
Governor Edwards is following CDC recommendations. It's about time to give up the "it's all a conspiracy - you're Chicken Little - and don't act like sheep" comments, yes? This disease may not yet be bad where YOU live, but it's changing by the minute for many of us. The State Epidemiologist estimates that eventually, 80% of us WILL get the virus, even if we stop the rapid spread now. The goal is to slow the rate of transmission so that those who catch this don't overwhelm the health system.

Time will tell.
It's interesting to note that the Sealed Indictment map of the USA by State mimic the 'infected' coronavirus map by State. Do you believe in coincidences?

I am guessing that oxygen therapy is usually used for secondary breathing issues like pneumonia that can happen from the virus. As for "promising" cases. There's tons and tons of "promising" treatments. None of them work till they are proven. "Promising" in statistics and true effectiveness are two different things.

Wash your hands thoroughly, then watch your 401(k) go down the drain. This is turning out to be the mother of all HOAXES!

This is turning out to be the mother of all HOAXES! If you are right, you are a genius. If you are wrong...a huge # of people die.
