Three things I would suggest: A dose of common sense Keep up with the news Get with your primary care physician if you have any high risk factors associated with illness. Bill And hope that you don't need your 401K money anytime soon. The Zombie Apocolypse is on it's way. Four days ago I transferred 100% of my TSP (401k) from L Income to Government Treasuries. I'm happy!

Tanking of 401K? You mean like the last few times there was a financial crisis? Stock market comes, stock market goes, it's just the way of this casino-like system. In 2008 when my 401K became a 201K, I just relaxed and watch it completely recover and then some. It just takes time and it will be the same cycle this time.

I should have put mine in bonds, but did not see this coming. Spent too much time playing with my AV! Wife not happy. When it goes back up I'm going to get less aggressive.

The worst thing you can do in a downturn unless you are in retirement or really close is to take money out of your 401k or move the funds into money market funds. I know people who moved money out at the bottom of the 2008 drop and did not get back in util it almost made a full recovery. I think he was 50 or so at the time. He will never recover that money.

If you would have saw it coming then you would have most likely have seen several other ups and downs coming, thus you would have had so much money that your wife would let you buy any AV equipment you could dream of! My belief is that the virus fear will slow down in a few week and within a few months the markets will be back to close to where they were. And honestly the market needed a correction because no matter how much I liked it, the market growing at a 20% rate per year in not realistic.

My prep has me sticking to Bourbon or Vodka since the Alcohol levels are high enough to kill any virus in my system. It is possible that my logic is flawed though.

Yeah, still young and in (relatively) good health so I'll sit out the hand-wringing and worrying (stress isn't good for overall health). I'll start paying attention to this "crisis" when it gets close to affecting 0.1% of the population. Ignoring the health issues, the worry that is on alot of people's minds is the tanking of their 401K's. Nothing you can really do about it, but it's there. That's why my Grandpa always told me, "don't put one dollar in the market that you aren't prepared to light on fire and burn completely."

Sorry, but the CDC recommends an N-95 mask. This is clearly N-03. Poor fellow.

Sterilize your throat with a periodic ethyl alcohol beverage and at bedtime with a peroxide gargle. Improves your disposition and whitens your teeth.
Sorry, I couldn't resist joking, but it's definitely less funny today. The first of our U.S. citizens died today (but almost certainly won't be the last)...

Boom true and sad, lets hope for the best.
However one death is a minute fraction of those who already have died nationwide in the months since last fall from influenza/pneumonia. (18,000 ā 46,000 deaths from 10-1-2019 to 2-1-2020, from the CDC). It seems understandable but ironic to me that we have a number of Lizards here and in the general population who refuse to get a flu shot but who are now concerned about the Corona virus.
US deaths from influenza: 2018 --- 61,000 plus estimated.

I'm drinking a lot of Coronas, to keep the virus at bay, lol....ok, so seriously, just the same old, keeping an eye on things, doing the obvious, experts are saying it's going to hit around 70% of the Earth population but most will be fine...depends on age and hygiene... The Chinese are the experts on this. They created it in a lab and set it loose.

Just some thoughts here... today I saw a meme which was a good reminder: "2002 - West Nile virus will kill us all.
2004 - SARS will kill us all.
2005 - Bird flu will kill us all.
2009 - Swine flu will kill us all.
2014 - Ebola will kill us all.
2016 - Zika will kill us all."
On top of that, don't forget how Y2K would cripple the entire world, bringing us to a crashing standstill. And don't forget about Mad Cow disease. Well, it did affect Denny Crane so I have to allow for that. People like to latch onto things and those things start gathering momentum at an exponential rate - not the "things" themselves, but the talk about them. As more people jump on the bandwagon, others figure they had better get on too, so they won't look stupid being left behind. And the more who are on board, the more it must be something credible. Like that's why people had to buy Talking Elmo or Cabbage Patch Kids, because everyone else was buying them. There's safety in numbers. Then there's the Dutch tulip craze. And the world's gonna end in 12 years (and think of how the world was supposed to have already ended how many times by now?). Now I'm not saying that the Corona Virus isn't legit and that we shouldn't be concerned about it, but let's not stop drinking Corona beer and doing other irrational things. The best path is to be prudent and take precautions like you ought to be doing anyway, since the flu is still going around and that's pretty deadly as well. Just use common sense and don't let panic, opportunists or irrationality take over. Don't get afflicted with CLS (Chicken Little Syndrome)

Sorry, but the CDC recommends an N-95 mask. This is clearly N-03. Poor fellow. The N95 is only 95% efficient at best. It's basically a dusk mask and has to be worn properly to work well. Wearing it wrong can actually make things worse. I did Environmental, Health and Safety for over 20 years. Also, this mask and the surgical mask are for those who HAVE the virus; so they can't spread it as easily. Wear it if it makes you feel more secure. Stay Healthy and wash you hands and practice good hygiene.
