Good mini review Glenn! I have been very impressed with my S15's so far, I feel as though in my room they have a lot more output than my PSA S1510DFs did. Now this is all with movies, as in two channel my Mirage OMD-28/Rmc-1/DR-2 combo is amazing and I don't see a need for a sub. But as you alluded to in your review I think its just a matter of the Emotiva subs preforming better in my room placement wise then these subs being any better than the PSA subs were. Space wise I was not able to do a sub crawl and relocate the subs to an "optimal" location so it really was a matter of what sounds best in the space that they basically have to go in. I also did have the same popping issue as you, but it seems to have gone away after a few weeks. It was very odd at first, but I'm happy it does not seem to be there any more.

Hi davidl81 - I'm glad to hear that your sub popping has diminished. Do you leave your subs on all the time, or are they activated only when a signal is present? Thanks - Boom

Maybe that's my problem - I turn them completely off (using the on-off switch) after each listening session. Probably keeping the caps from stabilizing.

The wife and I watch Netflix at fairly low volume tonight and both subs popped about 10 times each. Really the first time I have noticed this since the first few days I had the subs. We watched a movie with the kids before that and never heard them, but we had the movie louder and maybe the popping was happening and I just could not hear it? I’ll update if this keeps happening. I love the subs, but I have no idea on how I would go about getting these massive things worked on in the event they needed to be repaired. And my fear is that it is an issue common to all S15s since both of mine are popping and your is as well.

Since the problem is with the plate amp and not the driver, it might be feasible to just remove the plate amp and ship it back?

Was going to pull the trigger on this sub but now I will hold off. Maybe it’s why they went on clearance so fast after initial release.

So hear me out, I’m watching Rise of Skywalker right now and these subs are absolutely amazing for HT use. For $799 each (plus the Emo bucks!) I do not think there are any subs on the market that can compete with them. Honestly makes me overlook that popping issue.

They ARE amazing HT subs - Last week I watched “Midway” and the S-15s rocked the world!

Are you guys using RCA cables or XLR? Does the pop get louder if you turn it up? So the pops happen during movie time, I thought it would only pops from initial turn on only.

I’m using XLR, the pops are a constant level input signal has no effect on them. The only time I noticed it was during a very quite TV show. When watching a movie at any decent volume I’ve never heard them.

Looks like I blew a fuse on one of my S15s. They look like 250V 7A fuses. Anyone know if they are slow burn or fast burn?

I'd call Emotiva & ask. And you BLEW a fuse? How loudly were you playing?

NO well designed sub should NOT "thump" randomly, no matter how long it's been on or off. If this is typical for this model, then I would consider it a defective design, AKA Junk. With so much great competition in the sub market (SVS, Hsu, Rythmik, Power Sound, etc.) such defects should not be "fluffed" off.

I'd call Emotiva & ask. And you BLEW a fuse? How loudly were you playing? I spoke with Keith at Emotiva and he did not know. They didn't know the size of the fuse either, (FYI its a 250V 7A). I had to order fuses from Amazon since I could not find any locally. I went ahead and ordered both the slow and fast fuses. They will be here today, so I will give Emotiva another call here in a bit and I am sure someone will know. Volume wise I am actually not sure when it went out since I have dual subs I actually had not noticed that one was not playing. I had called Emotiva that morning and spoke to Grayson about the thump and he suggested to put the sub in always on mode to see if that stops the thump. So when I went to adjust the settings is when I noticed the one sub had no power. But I have not played anything loud for a while so I feel pretty good that it was not the case. It could have been a bad fuse, or maybe this thumping sound is doing something else. Grayson had said that was the first time he had heard about his thumping sound, but if you and I are seeing it it must be somewhat wide spread.

Uh-oh... If the fuse blew and you weren’t overdriving the plate amp it could be a problem with the amp itself. Try a fast-blow fuse first. If it pops instantly, let Emotiva know.

Yeah that was Keith's thought. Basically if the fuse blows again it's most likely something bad in the amp. He was not sure if they could just ship me a new amp or if I would have to send the entire sub to Emotiva (Which be a huge PIA to ship). Hopefully they can just send me the amp if needed since it should be a fairly simple swap out.

They'll probably just have you replace the plate amp. Were it mine, I'd throw away the plate amp, cover the hole with a thick plate, and drive the sub with an old Crown DC300a power amp. I bet it would sound better...
