I had an XPR-2 and XPR-5 I used with a Yamaha RX-A3050 as a processor in a dedicated movie room which was re-purposed:-( Since I gave the XPR-5 and some speakers to my son, I am left with the Yamaha, the XPR-2, 2 DefTech BP-9060 towers and a CS-9060 center. I plan to run the XPR-2 for stereo and for movies I will be running the towers on the XPR-2 and the center channel on either the Yamaha or a new Emotiva amp. Any recommendations as to which Emotiva amp would best fill the void?

Wow the XPR-5 is a tough act to follow. What is the budget for the remaining 5 channels to drive amplifier wise. I am a huge fan of the Monoprice 5 channel amplifiers that kind of give you the brawn of the XPR but seriously on surround it is doubtful you need that much amp on the surrounds. The center will need more day to day. But the Monoprice is more than up to the task. Made by ATI for them. It is not cheap, but great performance for the money.https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15593. Keeping it Emotiva, check out XPA-5. More than the Monoprice but will get it done. emotiva.com/collections/amps/products/xpa-5-gen3. Outlaw Audio 7220 is another one. But considerably more. Not knowing the budget these may or may not apply. Of course many options around. The XPR in the front stage is the star. Just trying to get you some great supporting Amplifiers for the surrounds. You could even get the beast 7900. Needs 2 dual 15 amp circuits. The most of the bunch. Killer amplifier though.http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/7900.html.

The hard part will be having your new amps "keep up" with your XPR.
If you're looking for a single chassis system, then you basically have only two choices. The BasX A-700 at 110 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Or the XPA-7 at 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms, at three times the price.
As far as Emotiva's current offering that can "keep up" with the XPR, you're stuck with a couple of the XPA-DR3s at 450 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Like your XPRs, they are fully differential, fully balanced. The other lessor amps I mentioned aren't.
Another possible way to go would be to get five to seven XPA HC-1s at 300 watts into 8 ohms. (They are not balanced).
Currently I'm less than impressed with Emotiva's current lineup of amps. They have gone light weight, and light power draw, to conform to the current "fashion". I don't know what I would do if I have to replace my Gen. 1 XPA-2s, with 12 output devices per channel (low output impedance).
P.S. While I was typing, so was vcautokid. I'm certianly not opposed to ATI amps, they are very nice. But if I remember correctly they have been "voiced" differently from Emotiva amps in the past. Definitely check them out!

Any recommendations as to which Emotiva amp would best fill the void? Checking if I have this right, you had a 7 power amplifier channel HT and now you have a 2 channel HT? Is there a sub? I’m not sure what you want achieve, is it just 3 channels LCR, or back to 7 channels again? If 3 channels I’d try an HC-1 on the centre channel. It’s a Class AB power amp, with a half width footprint and a SMPS. If it’s 7 channels then an XPA-5 will do the job very well, and based in others’ experience they integrate very well with XPR amps as they share design philosophies (as does the HC-1 above). Cheers Gary

I guess I should have been more specific:-( I am only going to run 3 channels so I would be looking for something to drive the center only (or use the center on the Yamaha). Alternatively, I could sell the XPR-2 and go with a 3 channel amp. Suppose I could go with a 5 channel amp for future expansion, but the way the room is configured the 3 channel option may be what I am stuck with. And thanks for all the great info so far. I really appreciate the help.

I really appreciate the help. From 1 to 7 channels depending on what you need, I have the older M2 series and I'm really enjoying the power and finesse it produces, it has the B&O Ice Modules but the newer M3 series use the Pascal Modules now. www.d-sonic.com/
