The more I read about the Emotiva "VSUB-1 Virtual Copper™️ 24 Bit Digital Audio Wireless Subwoofer System," the more tempted I am to try it. One can run up to two transmitter-receiver pairs for discreet right and left subwoofers, and the devices seem optimized for their jobs. In my system, ANYTHING that reduces the number of wires required is worth its weight in gold...
My initial complaint was that the things lacked balanced circuitry, but then it occurred to me - without subwoofer wires, there's no hum to cancel, so balanced or unbalanced becomes academic. I was also prepared to fuss about the price, but considering the features, I'm thinking that they might be worth the $$$.
But before purchase, I wanted to ask if anyone had tried these, and if so what (if any) problems did you encounter?

I've seen several "wireless speaker transmitters" before - and wasn't terribly impressed.
However, these sound clean, have a nice quiet noise floor, pretty good range - especially line-of-sight, and you can pair one transmitter with multiple receivers on multiple subs. This is quite handy if you have two or three subs, at multiple locations, being operated as "multiple-mono"... you can use a single transmitter with multiple receivers...
Note that these are not full range since they are intended for subs.
(They actually do have response up to several kHz, so you can use them for an outdoor zone speaker, if full-range fidelity isn't especially important.)

I did note that a single transmitter can control multiple receivers, but that works only if one is running a monophonic sub channel. I'd be more interested in trying two transmitters and two receivers for discreet R-L channels. But there's nothing to keep me from starting with one transmitter/receiver pair and adding another later should I choose to... Thanks for the feedback, KeithL! |
