Although I could do one, I'm not really looking for a DIY project. Depending on what kind of prices my audio amigo / dealer can offer me, I'm looking hard at:
Jolida JD-1000 P (100 wpc)
Quicksilver Mono 120 (120 watts)
If I've got to go used, I'm looking hard at the Dynaco Mk. III (60 watts) or the BAT VK-60 (60 wpc).

I have a mono block tube amp that is pretty sweet, the Audio Electronics Supply (AES) Six Paks. The use six EL34s for 60 to 70 watts or so. I paid $1900 a few years ago, but since Dennis Had retired from Cary Audio (Audio Electronic was essentially a development playground for Dennis much like First Watt is for Nelson Pass) that group doesn't exist anymore. Cary has some nice, but pricey powerful tube amps. There is currently a nice set of Six Paks on Audiogon (https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lisa0fac-aes-six-pac-tube)

BAT gear is pretty hefty built!

As is Audio Research, Cary, & McIntosh - but the resale (for some reason) is not as high on BAT as it is with those other "premium" brands.

Boom.... First, the bad news. You worried about RESALE when you don't own it yet? I'd call that a bad sign!
Second? Get out that soldering iron. For the 'ask' of about 330$, the ACA amp would be PERFECT to replace your existing
stuff and may give you a 'new lease on life' outlook.
But you DO need speakers at the very highest end of sensitivity I'd like to try it with the Klipsch Forte III......only 2 large each.....

Boom, I've had BAT - their build quality is beyond reproach - Victor Khomenko was involved in the USSR;s space program, and was head of HP's instrumentation division, and a brilliant engineer. Sterophile Class A in their first year on the market. All tube, all Class A, all fully balanced internally.
These days, at their rationally high prices, most BAT stuff goes to Asia, where they find panting buyers, as with C-J, MacIntosh, Audio Research and other premier marques.
If you look at the Stereophile reviews of the VK60, you'll see that it doesn't produce extremely high power - but the sonics are delicious.
Like all the good stuff, throw the specs aside and listen!
Happy to discuss,
Bill

My recommendation would be get a solid powerful SS Amp then get a very good Tube preamp...The pre will allow ALL your sources to be in the tube realm where you will get far more bang for the tube buck!

Probably good advice amped - for most speakers. I ran that setup with Dahlquist DQ-10a speakers for many years and found it heavenly! But some speakers, and particularly horn speakers, seem to sound better (to my ears and in my room) with a real tube power amplifier driving them. I've tried hybrid systems with the tube preamp and solid state amp, but the Klipsch La Scalas that I had in at the time just didn't sound nearly as good with this rig as they did with tubed power amps. I don't know why this is so, but I'm convinced that it is.

I'll bet those LaScalas would ALSO sound good with something from the Pass Zen line or even the ACA amp. Some of these have very high output impedance which is just what the Doctor Ordered when it comes to some of the old or vintage Big Box speakers.

Boom, how inexpensive? What price range. Inexpensive is a safe word translated to cheap so I would not be concerned about resale value. "You get what you pay for" is not just a slogan. Why not something used and something that is moderately priced. A used VTA amplifier or mono blocks from Bob Latino might be something to consider.

Rogue Audio Atlas Magnum.
Its the power section to my Cronus Magnum so its a pair of 12AU7, 12AX7 and a quad of KT120.
I don't see them come up often used.
Audiogon has a Rogue Audio ST90 magnum or supermagnum with kt120 tubes for $1500 right now.

Availabity / cost of a given piece might be expressed in an equation:
Number produced X Satisfaction Level X 'Total Losses'.......
So, while they may have made fair numbers of 'em, the 'total losses' of Phase Linear 400 amps means low number (relatively) on the used market.
Something with huge satisfaction regardless of produciton numbers might come up less often and have a firm price. Especially if of high reliabilty of
with never-ending factory support. I sent my MG-1 panels to the factory 25 years or so after manufacture and the ONLY question I got was 'What Color do
you want the Grill (sock) cloth?" Followed by 3 or 3 choices.
For Boom? Should probably buy 'pre loved' to minimize the downside at possible (probable) resale. Me? I hang on to stuff and have minimal churn.....

Some folks (like my friend Walter) are prescient enough to know what they want. They buy it and keep it until it breaks.
Some folks buy what they THINK they want, but then find that it wasn't what they hoped it would be - and so then sell it.
Some folks buy what they THINK they want, and despite the fact that it wasn't actually what they wanted, they settle and keep it forever anyway.
Some folks don't know what they want until they hear it. They churn through stuff until they find the sound they want.
Some folks churn through stuff looking for what they want, but never find it. They are always seeking "something better."
Some folks fit multiple categories at different times.
I'm sure that there are some other categories that I've missed, but these are the ones I can think of "off the top of my head."
