Although I don't want an AVR or any surround sound, I would like to purchase a sound bar that will sound better than the speakers in our TV.
Features I want & don't:
"All-in-one," self-powered design - no external subs Auto on-off synched to the TV signal Input via either HDMI-ARC or TOSLINK optical (either one is OK - don't specifically need both) Able to sit atop stand - not wall-mounted Price in the $300 range (used is OK) With or without faux-surround is OK
Suggestions?
Thanks - boom

Hi Boom,
One I think is cool is the B&W panorama. There are a number on Ebay, but interestingly, they are not all in very good shape. It may be a little tall too. It’s really nice looking and some piece of mind there with the brand. Not sure about all the interface/switching so that’s a consideration. Also the nice ones are commanding more.
Another option that I have is B&O 6000 powered speakers. I use these in my bedroom where the are on either side of a bureau. There isn’t much room there between the doors, but they are so skinny it works. The sound is awesome, especially considering the size of the woofers, and they have satisfying bass. They are in your price range on ebay, just look carefully for dings etc. I have no way of knowing how old mine are, and I did have to re-foam them, which wasn’t hard or expensive. This is a known issue. If you find some that have the green lights on at the bottom they are functioning.
Lastly, there is a pretty good selection of soundbars at Costco. You could try them all until you got one you liked, best of all they are still open! Thanks, Peter

I bought this one for the bonus room area - Yamaha ATS-1080 35" 2.1 Channel K Ultra HD Bluetooth Soundbar with Dual Built-in Subwoofers . Does well for the price.

Got it for sale at Costco for $109, so that $99 price is excellent.

Let's choose another path - I already have a center channel speaker - Is there any way to take a mono audio signal from the TV, run it through a Dayton amp and use the center channel for mono TV sound?

Sorry, not on the subject of your mono idea, but I just came across the Q Acoustics new M4 (I think, check the site, it’s really nice). This company has some pedigree with a number of highly regarded and recently reviewed speakers. This is $349 on their site and just came out. They say it has a built in sub, and comes with a remote. Has rca or optical. Probably a huge leap over the typical ‘bars out there.
