Hi All, This is my first post here. Since this corona virus thing began some months ago I have been working from home and realised how much I miss having a decent sound system instead of a pair of computer speakers :-). With that in mind I spent a bit of time over the past few weeks looking around to see what kind of high end (for me at least) setup I could come up with. In the end I decided upon the following... XPA-DR2 Differential Reference™ Two-Channel Power Amplifier BasX PT-100 Stereo Preamplifier/DAC/Tuner Definitive Technology BP9060 SVS SB-3000 subwoofer I was wondering whether the setup above seems "balanced", as in does the amplifier and speaker combination seem like a good match power and quality wise? I heard DefTech speakers around 15 years ago when I was in university and they blew my socks off but I could not afford them at the time and then family life took precedence as I am sure is the case with many people. Can any current Def Tech users confirm if the 9060 is a good all round speaker? About the subwoofer... My understanding is that the SB-3000 is an excellent sub for music and I intend to use it for music and video games. I haven't heard an SVS sub and I cannot at this point as showrooms are shut due to corona virus however SVS appear to have a very good reputation. Can any SVS users confirm that the "SB" line-up is better for music when compared to the PB series? Last but definitely not least I thought of getting the XPA-DR2 amp versus the XPA3 Gen 3 amp because it appears to be the best amp Emotiva makes. Once again I have never used Emotiva gear before, but there appear to be many happy and crucially repeat customers. Is the XPA-DR2 amp a good choice for the setup that I have chosen? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you

Welcome and I'm sure more knowledgable people than I will chime in. I think your selections are fine although I don't have experience with all of them. The Def Tech 9060's are pretty nice speakers. I've heard them and they do sound very good. The one thing that is nice about them is you can add the extra ceiling bounce speakers on top and they blend right in. I originally was going to buy the Mythos Super Towers but they discontinued them and later came out with the Demand series. I've heard the ST but not the Demands so I went with Martin Logans instead. For the amps, I'm sure the DR2 is excellent. I've got five Emotiva amps total, two of them are the Gen 3's and I really like them a lot. I really have no complaints. The SVS subs are also excellent. I've got two of the SB-2000 Pro's and they rock. I listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of movies and they sound great for both. They have great low extension and I've got them very dialed in with my towers and produce a nice smooth transition. Very pleased with the set-up and the SVS phone app is also great for quick adjustments on the fly. Good luck with the shopping and I think you're on the right path for sure.

I’m sure everything you picked will sound fine. Welcome to the forum. Please let everyone know your results once everything is set up and you’ve had time listen.
So what will your first album or song be??

One thing to note right now is Emotiva is giving you 30% back in Emobucks to spend, so for example if you purchased the DR2, PT-100 and they're newer RS-13 subwoofer you would get $1049 back in Emobucks, which you could use to pick up a pair of T2 speakers for free, I know you don't mention the RS-13 or T2 in your original post but I would keep them in mind, the T1 and T2 towers have glowing reviews from users and reviewers alike.
Either way anything you purchase from emotiva you will get 30% in Emobucks which you can instantly use to place another order.
Cheers, Chad

I'm not a fan of the Def Tech speakers. The 2 people I know who have went from Def Tech to Emotiva speakers have said it was an improvement. My T2 speakers sound pretty good and I dearly love my Phase Tech PC series speakers.

I did consider the speakers as well, however, I am in the UK and shipping speakers from the US is quite expensive.

I was considering Emotiva speakers but I have this memory from way back when I heard a pair of Def Tech speakers and I had never heard anything as clean sounding or as powerful. Perhaps it is rose tinted glasses . Either way it will be a million times better than my current 2.1 pc speaker setup

Your choices seem ... sound 🔈😀 I’ll just comment on the sub, I’ve had a couple pair of SVS and think they’re great. For the last year I’ve been using the SB-4000, which I believe is similar to the 3000. While the PB’s are known to really pack a wallop, I also choose the SB for its reputation with music, and probably being a better match with the Maggies. I can’t really comment on a comparison to the PB’s, as I’ve never used them, but can say the SB-4000’s do an excellent job with music, you can hear bass pitch and timbre well, and they keep up with the rest of the band. Since you’re building a music system and not a home theatre, I’d say the SB is the better choice for you (I do both with mine).

Go with Emotiva T-2. SUbstitute the PT-100 for a used Emotiva DC-1. I haven't heard the DR-2. My personal choice would be used Emotiva XPA-1 gen 2 which is the best amp I've heard or the Emotiva PA-1.

If you liked Definitive Technology from yesteryear, then look at Golden Ear technology. I don’t advocate either as I am a Revel and only plan on using Revel from here on out. But there are a million speaker companies out there. Whatever you get in this day and age will sound at minimum pretty good.

Also wondering how much difference adding a DR2 Or DR3 would make

Nothing wrong with being stuck in the last century. It’s looking pretty good right now.

Nothing wrong with Def Tech - I do love their outdoor speakers, but the Emotiva tweeters are quite nice. Mark

They have their "sound" just like any other speaker. They weren't for me. YMMV If you have the opportunity to audition other speakers before buying, then I would do it. It will either re-affirm your choice (and you are the one that has to be happy with it, not anyone else) or open up other possibilities at your price range.

It’s a big plus coming up with main loudspeakers that not only are “to die for” (to your own ears) but also practical in terms of sales service and shipping. Those main loudspeakers are the most important part of the whole mix for sure. I’ve been there with that....my mains were built just a little over 4 hours from where I’m living and that ended up being a huge bonus over the years. Bill
