I was considering Emotiva speakers but I have this memory from way back when I heard a pair of Def Tech speakers and I had never heard anything as clean sounding or as powerful. Perhaps it is rose tinted glasses . Either way it will be a million times better than my current 2.1 pc speaker setup Since you heard the DefTechs they were sold and they went in a different direction. If you liked Definitive Technology from yesteryear, then look at Golden Ear technology. I don’t advocate either as I am a Revel and only plan on using Revel from here on out. But there are a million speaker companies out there. Whatever you get in this day and age will sound at minimum pretty good. Many thanks for the heads up. I read a bit more about def tech towers and came across several posts on various forums of amp failure in their speakers. I am referring to amps that power the built in sub that def techs have in most towers. Given that people are likely to post only if something goes wrong there were just way too many posts, or at least too many for me to ignore! It also appears that whilst failed amp components were replaced without a fuss previously, this does not seem to be the case any more. Anyway... that is just too much hassle for me as I keep my audio gear for many years so I went for SVS Ultra Towers instead . Hopefully there won't be any problems.

I have heard a lot of good things on the SVS Ultra towers. They were on my short list as well when they came out with them. So while I personally don’t have any experience with the sound of the SVS loudspeakers, I can confidently vouch for their customer service. Their customer service is unrivaled. I had an amp go on my SVS SB13 (actually could have been the cables, sorry SVS). Anyway, they wanted me to do a quick battery test on the driver then shipped the amp right away with a paid return label for my defective amp. The whole process took 2 days. It’s the single greatest customer service I’ve ever experienced. Both on the phone and the speedy fix. So when it came time for me to shop for a sub, I considered Monoprice and other brands but in the end I bought the PB16....now I have to buy a 2nd one down the road to match it. Enjoy your new speakers!
