I have a SAMSUNG Q900TS 65" ---> NO ARC with RMC-1. I'm using Optical 4 for audio when using Apps from TV. I have had issues in the PAST using a SAMSUNG 55" 800D paired with a XMC-1, but I finally got ARC to work . Don't ask me what steps I took !!!!! I used optical on Xmc-1 as I did not have the HDMI board upgrade. At least there is a solution. Thanks.

I don’t have any need for 2.1 at the moment, but if it’s faster and/or smoother that would be great. Probably get the most use out of DTS:X Pro and newer Atmos code, but might pick up a balanced card too. Fortunately I don’t NEED anything, just want it all to keep getting refined, but yeah, sooner’s better. You are wrong. Sooner will not be better. Likely it will be just as bad. It will have a higher chance of having issues if they rush yet another not-ready-for-market product out (if Emotiva can redefine a higher chance than 100% given their track record so far with these processors) Sorry my one word of optimism clouded the premise of my post. I agree, we don’t want anything before it’s ‘ready’; if your point is to encourage Emotiva to hold products in development until all significant issues are resolved, I also agree. However at some point in a product’s development it reaches a point where it must be exposed to a wider audience, hopefully that will first be the beta team. Even after beta, some issues will be missed, or deemed small enough that the benefits outweigh the risks (I’ve seen people blame the beta team for problems that were found, but not considered enough to stop product release). We’ve all seen that some can run their systems day after day and things just work, but others can’t turn them on without grief. Hopefully when the 2.1 board (or any other product) is released, a large majority of the people are in the former group, but we know it won’t be perfect. As I said, I have no need for 2.1 at this time, but if the technology and chipsets make my ‘2.0’ system run smoother, I’m all for it. doc1963 ’s insightful post regarding a possible trip to the factory would definitely factor into my decision to upgrade.

Does anyone know if or when the RMC-1 will be upgraded to fully support HDMI 2.1? I don't see a need for HDMI 2.1 so far. As long as there are no Players & discs for 8K, there is no extra value. All other Functions (like Atmos over eARC - if it's working) are already implementable in HDMI 2.0b. To have it only because the new TV is having it does not give any advantage. (If you are a gamer with the need to have 120fps, then its another thing)
It might be the upcoming standard in a few years - but of course, I would upgrade my RMC-1 just to have it state of the art once its out. But really no hurry with this.
There are still other things, which could be made better with the current HDMI Board and Firmware.

I don’t know, the Dynamic HDR and Quick Media Switching features in 2.1 sound pretty good to me

Note that eARC is a requirement of HDMI 2.1 - so all HDMI 2.1 devices support eARC.
Even though some HDMI 2.0 devices support eARC, and it is certainly an allowed option, eARC is not a requirement on HDMI 2.0b . (And regular ARC only supports a limited subset of Atmos over DD+.)
It will remain to be seen if eARC is more consistent and reliable than ARC.

Cool! Thanks. Now I know that the blank screen when video stream changes frame rate is called a bonk.

Hmm.. Expansion cards, HDMI 2.1, DTS:X Pro, IMAX Ehanced.. All this year! Will it really happen, considering Emotivas usual delays? Fantastic if true though! I think that may have been their goal so we will see. I’m not holding my breath for any of those. Only thing that would be nice is if they delivered DLBC.

I agree with you even that some of the upcoming options have already been implemented in 2.0b.
When you write: It will remain to be seen if eARC is more consistent and reliable than ARC. As long as there is no fixed standard, how manufacturer have to build an implement, it might cause the same issues as the current "standard" have.
I'll keep the fingers crossed - but a new HDMI Board is not my priority.
Q: Will the existing ARC-enabled products work with new products that use eARC? Answer:
Maybe. Manufacturers can produce products that are compatible with both eARC and ARC. However, eARC is not defined to be backwards compatible with ARC.
Are there any news about the upcoming modules for Balanced IN etc.?
Note that eARC is a requirement of HDMI 2.1 - so all HDMI 2.1 devices support eARC.

This is confirmed by my Sony TV. When the eARC setting on the tv is set to Enabled, ARC won't work.

Does the HDMI 2.0 board in the RMC-1 support eARC? I don't stream from my TV and send sound down to the pre/pro so I guess I've never tried to see.

Its been some time since I’ve run Dirac or changed my settings. Please be kind. So I go to Menu > Setup > Speakers > Preset 1 > Size > and find “Reflective” I’ve looked through the manual and could not find what it is. Could someone be kind enough to tell me? Txs in advance.

This is new with FW 2.3, “DD Reflective” is the proper Dolby terminology for Atmos Speakers that reflect off of the ceiling. So basically just a new name.

I may be old school but I never did believe in those reflective speakers before but maybe they’ve figured out the math to make them more effective. I doubt it! Even if they had the math they couldn’t send such a fine beam of sound to the ceito be scattered by it. A gimmick to me, way too much undefined sound being scatabout the room.

I actually did my first Atmos test with my own (very unique) version of reflective and it sounded so good I decided to cut holes. So I’d say it can still sound good if you have the right ceiling and reflective speakers.

So I’d say it can still sound good if you have the right ceiling and reflective speakers. Perhaps giving you enough of a taste to cut holes in the ceiling but not as a permanent installation, at least for me. We all know that sound will disperse in all directions and when it has traveled 8’ , 9’, 10’ and then hit a hard surface, ceiling, then it disperses again is just too much random sound in the room for me. This is the reason that I didn’t attempt it and just went strait forward and made the measurements and cut the holes. Im glad you were able to try the reflective surface method before you made the plunge. I don’t find Atmos enjoyable when the folks try to over do the use of those speakers. When done poorly I find that it detracts from the product! Enjoy!
