Observations on some combinations of bass management: 1 - If you have Center Sub=LFE and Fronts=Large, and no other Sub, Enhanced Bass is an option ... but nothing will happen. Nothing will be sent to the Center Sub because it is LFE-only. 2 - If you have Center Sub=LFE and Fronts=Large, and no other Sub, and you change your Fronts=Small ... Center Sub will automatically be changed to Mono. If you then change Fronts=Large again, Center Sub will still be Mono (you have to change it back). Good points! I also played with settings that changed what was available to the different subwoofers under various other speaker settings. Hadn't looked into the Enhanced Bass however, so that's a good catch! Enhanced Bass option should not show up when Fronts=Large.
I think it would make sense for all options to be visible in the Menu, however, the options that will not work under currently selected speaker setup should be greyed out so we all know what is possible so long as other settings are changed. I think you may have that backwards. "Note: The option to Enable Enhanced Bass will be shown in the Speaker | Size menu when it is available. (The Enhanced Bass option is only available when some of your speakers are set to Large.)"

My brain connected the other info in the conversation and left it out in the statement. I now stand corrected. With that configuration there is no place to send Extra Bass.

I think you said this well. I was considering a post that touched on some of this. We talk about specific issues and hardware from time to time. What we should pay more attention to is the "brand". People buy from you at least once if you are lucky because you made something they want. They buy from you for life because of your brand. I agree with most here that each of this issues will eventually be solved, but we collectively need to be more concerned with the "brand". The brand is what you are known for and consists of your day to day operations over time. I too am rooting for a local business to me, and hope they are extremely successful. I just personally would like to see the brand changing course a bit to reassure the community that it is a good, long-term investment. I'm considering keeping my current bedroom gear as I have it today and fully building my HT room back out. It is really difficult for me to consider what direction I want to go. I know this was meant for Keith, but I wanted to throw my .02 in concerning the Brand. I've been a long time customer of Emotiva having discovered the company when I was searching for a reasonably priced amplifier to replace an old Acurus three channel amp I picked up used on Craigslist. I wanted to go to a five channel amp. With kids in college, I didn't have the money to spend on expensive audiophile amplifiers. I wanted something new, was that even possible? I searched and found both Outlaw and Emotiva. Doing research and running the manufacturers by a good EE friend of mine, we came to the conclusion that either company would be fine, but the Emotiva XPA-5 at about $860 shipped was just too good to pass up. Since then, I have purchased multiple Emotiva products and for the most part they have been rock solid. If I had an issue like when my ERC-1 remote control stopped working AFTER the warranty expired and was fully prepared to buy a new one, I called and they sent me one for free! The heavy metal one. Great customer service. Easy to talk to. As far as I'm concerned....great brand. This was re-affirmed by attending an Emofest in Franklin a couple of years ago. Friendly people. Great environment. Met forum members. Great giveaways (even though I didn't win). Lonnie, Big Dan, Keith, and all the others are great people to talk to and deal with and you can tell that they are dedicated to making great products and to making their customers happy. This company means alot to them. it really is a family. They have been good to me....I will be good to them and wait for that next firmware update.
FWIW, I have always rooted for the underdogs. I bought an Alfa QV instead of a BMW M3 last go around With the Alfa, I endure the "is it always in the shop" jokes and push back because so far it has been great. I let my friends who won't let up about it drive it, then they change their minds... maybe not immediately, but over time because we talk about stuff like this. This is the stuff that changes the mindsets of people, it's what causes them to overcome preconceived views based on what others have written. Some of my friends are now looking at them and I've apparently swayed at least one person without even really trying to do so, he's getting an Alfa because a drive with me changed him enough to realize it's worth it. This is a lot like AV stuff: esoteric/obscure products like this are often "researched" like this. For the record, knowing that it has 6/8ths of a Ferrari engine in it and parts from a 458/488, it will be finicky and require attention later in life, but overall I defend it because it just works and it's a great car and has had no problems. And, I bought an extended warranty after the sale (dealer wanted a 300% markup), it is an Italian car after all
Back to stereo stuff, we (well, maybe past tense is more accurate here)like to have get togethers with family/friends in the media room... kind of our thing. My "AV-aware" friends gave me crap about the RMC1. They have read the AVS forum posts, they know people with older Emotiva processors, they know what people say. At first, I defended it because of the price to performance ratio (yes, I really did), but, when the thing craps out constantly, people can't use it, it starts making crazy noises, someone asks "why is there a faint static noise?", requires reboots, and the shindig moves to a different house because the setup isn't usable... I can't "defend it" and you know have just made sure that they won't ever look at an Emotiva product. For obscure products like high-performance 4 door cars and AV processors, this stuff goes a long way. Selling happens based on talking about and looking at/using gear from friends. Until they can make it such that this doesn't happen, it's a problem for them.
Just my 4 cents. Mic drop...

Picking up the mic....it’s definitely a problem for you. But what do you care, haven’t you returned it? It will likely be fixed after you do. Just put down .02 again.

I agree with both of you. The things pointed out in regards to brand in the first post I agree with except for one thing... But, that is his personal opinion and we can disagree on whether someone(s) care about delivering great products is measurable by niceness or not. There is a large difference between being passionate about your craft and delivering great products. The great part is up to the consumer to quantify for them. Which, leads me to part two. I've followed the processors for the last 3 generations. I have wanted to buy since then. I too found them and Outlaw around the same time. Obviously, I prefer to support a local small business. I did not buy the first two products due to the issues each had for significant time. By the time things were stable, some new tech is out. The community outside of this forum has a very different tone which many should pay far more attention to. Branding isnt just how nice people are although that is very important. They accel in this area. I'm sure Keith probably wants to punch me at times, but I deserve it. 😉 Peoples real life experiences matter here. Some are good. Some are bad. The bad reviews are just as important and worthy as the good. We don't remove cheer leading posts on here, but we do remove negative ones. This actually hurts branding more in my opinion had someone told me all the issues I would have had, the constant F bombs I've screamed thru the house due to being so angry at a product I paid a lot of money for, I would probably have not bought the product. But, I wouldn't be emotionally impacted either way. The first thing I do when deciding whether to buy something or not is read the negative reviews. You can tell by how people talk whether it was an unfortunate circumstance, or whether it is a trend. This is part of the brand. Two things I have no tolerance for in regards to not being rock solid: my daily driver and my electronics. That stuff needs to just damm work.

Not backwards, just not complete. Enhanced Bass option should not show up when Fronts=Large AND Center Sub=LFE AND no other subwoofer is configured. My brain connected the other info in the conversation and left it out in the statement. I now stand corrected. With that configuration there is no place to send Extra Bass. Ah, I must have jumped the gun. Next time I'll give you enough time to finish what your were writing. The thing about things like this is that sometimes I change a setting temporarily to test something and when changing one setting changes ANOTHER setting, and then you go back ... etc. So I ended up with my Center Sub set to Mono instead of LFE for a while without realizing it.

I had an Alfa QV, what a piece of crap! Nothing ever worked on it. It broke down all the time. It wouldn’t start, and when I did get it started it wouldn’t shut off. When I put it in drive it would go in reverse, it broke down all the time, I bought a black car and when I got it it was a dark ebony color, the steering wheel wasn’t completely round ,it got horrible gas mileage, it broke down all the time, the ride was terrible, the mirrors weren’t adjusted correctly when I got it, it broke down all the time, the seats were uncomfortable, It broke down all the time, the back seat was to small, it broke down all the time, the trunk was to big, the headlights wouldn’t turn on, it broke down all the time, the tail light wouldn’t shut off, It broke down all the time, the cigarette lighter wouldn’t work unless the the car was running, it always went faster then the speed limit and I got speeding tickets because of it, It broke down all the time, the door locks didn’t work and it burnt oil, it was a piece of crap, it broke down all the time and it was the worst car I ever had so I sold it after 8 years.........The stereo wasn’t bad though but it broke down all the time.

Sorry if that was off topic but it broke down all the time.

I see others are reporting distorion issues with the July 2020 firmware.
I have begun to notice this when listening to pure analog. I am listening to a Gold Note PH-10 phono preamp going into the XMC-2 XLR Analog inputs. I have the mode set to Reference Direct. Very audible distortion is occuring. I finally turned off the XMC-2 via the back AC switch (Cold boot). I then went straight to my phono input and there is no distortion. But, when I went to check my level settings in setup and then exited, the distortion returns? Again, I cold booted and when I return to my phono input there is no distortion.
I have no idea how this may relate to Dirac issues since I have not implemented Dirac?
I also noticed that when the distortion is introduced the gain on the XMC-2 is reduced about 10db? For example for the same listening level I am at 18 on the volume control with the distortion. When I reboot and there is no distortion, I am at 28 on the volume control?
I think this may be a serious problem?

I think this may be a serious problem? Not everyone hears it, and not all the time. But it seems some people hear it incessantly. I heard it one time two weeks ago and only on one multichannel track. It went away after a reboot. Then yesterday after doing a Dirac calibration I heard it only on the center channel of music upmixed from 2-channel with the Dolby upmixer. Switched to stereo for a while and then back to upmix and it was gone. Then it happened again with a Netflix series in 5.1. It was fine, then we started a new episode of the series and the distortion was only on the center channel on the peaks of dialogue. Power cycled the XMC-2 (in VRO mode) and the distortion was gone. I have also seen wide volume swings with a given piece of music played at different times. Not sure if this is relevant, but the only times I heard the distortion were after having done a Dirac calibration and loaded new filters, without having cycled power between loading the filters and hearing the distortion.

I do have different sound after a reboot, and it is 10 db softer.

Ok, this is a bit weird. My RMC-1 now comes out of VOS almost every time. Unfortunately, when it wakes up, there is no Sound. Switching inputs doesn't help. Once I reboot the unit, all is good. When the unit wakes up (from VOS), the triggers fire for the speakers and the AMP. It is responsive to the remote commands, it appears to be fully "Awake"

Playing with HDMI settings helped some, removing a video scaler helped even more. 2.0 is a very mixed bag.
