Something to consider with Emotiva Mic, there are 2 pieces to their setup, 1- Mic and 2- the cable. Their cable is active and provides amplification and digital conversion for the usb connection. For me the cable was the problem. Good point. I would not be surprised if the actual microphone (sound sensor / transcoder) is not the same or similar in both and potentially made in the same Chinese factory and costing pennies to buy by itself. There will be nothing fancy or specialised about it.

So installed calibration using the latest Dirac software and i get no sound playing a blu ray but if i use apple tv it works. Tried reloading the calibration file and nothing. Gonna try a factory reset and reload to see if that works ??

It's probably just one of those audio lock-ons that refuses to budge / disconnect until you reboot. Switching inputs doesn't usually free it for me.
Part of life with a G3P, innit!

One thing I forgot to mention was that when I used the the mic that shipped with the XMC-2 there was absolutely no way I could get the sweeps to be what I thought were a reasonable level. One of the runs actually damaged my left Magnepan.( Im not too happy about that) I have since moved those downstairs and went with Elacs for the living room. With the UMIK-1 the sweeps levels are very normal, and don't hurt my ears.

Could never get a good sounding run with the EMM-1, got the UMIK-1 and finally sounds good...

My RMC-1 is back at Emo getting its 'network plug not working' problem fixed. Hopefully. I'll be interested to find out what they find out since there seems to be people on the RMC-1/G3 Dirac threads with various problems connecting to the network. Since I'm getting some new furniture for my mini HT I will want to re-run Dirac after I get my processor back from Franklin. When I first ran Dirac shortly after getting my kit months ago I used the Dirac 2.0 instructions. It's now Dirac v14 manual and Dirac is now v3.x . On the Emo site the setup seems to be a little different- specifically in the order of master volume/ mic gain/speaker volume. Maybe I'm not reading it right. Could some of you guys who use Dirac often (and we all know who you are ) lookover the newest Emo Dirac instructions and verify that they are correct, please, and add any suggestions you have. There is a YT video from 8 months ago that Emo did- Is that video still applicable with the newer versions of Dirac ?? If not, who should we contact at Emo to get an updated video?? Keith? Damon? Other? Which version of Dirac are you guys using? I seem to remember some of you having problems with some of the newer versions. And if it's not the latest version, where do you find the older versions? Thanks, Tom

The video is still applicable... I would recommend reading and the WRITTEN instructions as well as watching the video since they cover the process in more detail.
The only major change is that the manual, and the video, talk about "setting the levels into the green area" ... The green area on each individual channel gauge has been replaced with a blue / green horizontal stripe / zone on the newer software versions ...
You STILL have to set the Mic Gain before setting the Output Level - although I believe they changed which one is now on the far left. (Then set the individual channel levels last.)
You now also want to make sure that your microphone is enabled on the computer
In recent months both Apple and Windows have added "microphone security and privacy" setting screens that allow you to block the microphone. These should default to allowing Dirac Live to access the microphone - but you may need to check. (You need to allow desktop apps to access the microphone - and then make sure Dirac Live / DLCT is NOT specifically blocked from doing so.) There's also something else that I'm going to mention here as well... The Ethernet ports on our processors take about 30 seconds to reset when you power the processor off. So, if you power the processor fully off for any reason, you MUST allow it to remain off for a full 30 seconds before powering it back on. If you do not then the network port will almost certainly not work when you power the processor back on. My RMC-1 is back at Emo getting its 'network plug not working' problem fixed. Hopefully. Hello emo community, For everyone who is longingly waiting for DLBC and has enough experience with acoustic measurements, MSO (Multi-Sub Optimizer) could be a welcome workaround. MSO is documented in great detail and with a lot of basic knowledge. So it's also a great resource for anyone with bass problems. Please do not discuss MSO here, but here. I wish you an insightful read and successful experimentation. And I suggest adding the links to AudioHTIT's list at the beginning of the thread.

Keith,
I think a discussion thread about MSO is better placed on the AVS forum as it is easier to discuss with the author there. Unless there is a general interest in sharing MSO experiences with P3G here.
PS: sorry, the wrong link is fixed

This weekend I plan to try to calibrate a system with Dirac. I have three subwoofers: one center sub (mono) and two surround sub (dual mono). I find it a bit difficult to make the right sub-settings because there are so many different settings. Is there anyone who has a similar subconfiguration and who can give me some tips before I run Dirac?

If you have the Center Sub configured Mono, and the other two subs configured Dual Mono, then all three subs are playing exactly the same mono content. All three play the LFE channel in surround sound (the .1 channel), and all three play the bass from all speakers set to Small. The bass from all speakers set to Small is in mono, not stereo, and is determined by the crossover frequency set for each Small speaker. Dirac will treat each of the three subwoofers as separate speakers, as it does for all speakers. It will measure each separately and determine distance/time delay, frequency correction and impulse response correction separately. During Dirac calibration the crossover settings for the speakers do not matter, because Dirac measures the full range of each speaker and does not cross over Small speakers to the subwoofers.

How would you configure a center subwoofer and two subwoofers left and right like I have? Center, Left and Right are "names" but they have no correlation to channels. It's all mono. So that's the first thing to remember. You have two basic choices with three subwoofers: - You can make them Mono and Dual Mono which sends all the LFE and small speaker bass to all three subs equally as I described. If you do it this way, then you should position your subs for optimal combined response in your room. I recommend information from the Harman paper on multiple subwoofers to determine the best location. www.harman.com/documents/multsubs_0.pdf
- A second option is to configure the Center Subwoofer as LFE and the other two subwoofers as Dual Mono. If you do it this way, the Center Sub would get ONLY the LFE/.1 content from surround sources. The other two subs would get ONLY the bass from small speakers below their configured crossover points.
Again, the thing to remember is that in either choice the sound is mono, not stereo.

Dirac support says they're working on a fix for the 3.0.13 crashes that we've been seeing. Hang in there! So i havent done any calibrations on my system in months, lots of months until today. I had dirac software just close as it was sending the info over to my xmc-2 twice and never could get the preset i was working with updated. Up until trying to update my processors presets everything went smooth and dirac didnt give me any problems. i sent the levels and did 13 test points with out issue. I dont believe ive used the 3.0.13 version of dirac. Has there been issues with it? ive read backward in this thread but i really just want to know if i should hold off on doing any more calibrations until a newer version is released. Ive had no issues with my xmc-2 and/or dirac up to this point with the exception of my processor freezing up after getting a preset send over from the pc. But upon restarting the unit my preset(s) were updated as they should have been. Ive been waiting on a new firmware and the newest dirac software before i felt the need or desire to do any more calibrations. This was a brand new start from scratch calibration attempt.

I have not run Dirac with this Firmware 2.2 yet. But, I gave Dirac 3.0.13 a lot of chances with previous FW and almost every time it crashed upon loading the filters. I'm sticking with Dirac 3.0.11. Late tonight will be my first opportunity with the new FW.
