For those of you interested in Dirac ART progress - Matthew Poes has posted his take on the current status of ART. It was interesting to hear his breakdown of ART expanding from the auto industry with custom- built audio equipment out to the wider audio world and the challenges this has thrown up. He's closer than most integrators to the Dirac development team so I think we can be reasonably confident this represents a pretty accurate assessment of where ART is up to. youtu.be/6jsCxgv2akk?si=2j1fK3vNF52dUqQ3He is currently posting some interesting short videos on YouTube answering questions.

There is a high level of hyperbole surrounding Dirac ART. Dirac is obviously NOT developing ART in the time line they expected. Dirac has waffled on the requirements for ART. Poes should be careful with how he attaches himself to ART. A PhD is a terrible thing to waste.

I just did a full calibration with DL 3.10.3 beta. No issues and the results are very good. No reason not to use this latest version as far as I can see.

I've known for a long time that the position of the left curtain in Filter Design affects frequencies below 50Hz differently. And I'm talking about left curtain positions between the farthest left at 10Hz, up to 20Hz. Since my subs respond down below 16Hz I always place the curtain lower than that. And note the following ... the Left and Right channels cross over to the Subs at 50Hz with an external active 24db/octave crossover. So pretty much everything you see for both channels and the LFE channel is summed to mono in the subs. Today I did a methodical test using a calibration I did two days ago. I set the Left/Right Front left curtain at 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 .... and I set the Sub/LFE Left curtain at 10, 12, 13, 14. That is all I changed. Same measurements, same target curves, didn't touch other channels. Look at the variation ... Left, Right, Sub/LFE. Somehow, the Left and Right respond differently and both respond differently than the LFE. This is with Variable smoothing to show all the differences. I noted that the Sub/LFE was best with the curtain at 14Hz. Left was best at 10, and Right was best at 13 ... but 12 was the best compromise between the two. This is all probably why Dirac tried to limit the left curtain position to 20Hz two years ago in version 3.3. Because corrections below 20Hz were not predictable. But it didn't work because setting the curtain to 20Hz caused even more variability above 20Hz. They relented ... we optimize by trial and error.

I'd like to try this test. Left is blue, Right is pink, LFE/Sub is orange. Kind of hard to identify the traces because they overlap so much. Key is that they vary in ways that are not predictable other than once you get up to 14Hz or higher for speakers that play below 20Hz, the result gets worse above 20Hz. (I sent ttocs the REW file. If anyone else wants it, PM me. It's too big to post)

I have an xmc-2 on which I previously successfully ran dirac live correction although it was several years ago.
I replaced the subwoofer and I am attempting to run dirac live again, but I am unable to check the box next to Dirac live->Enable on the XMC-2. Anyone else ever run into this and know how to get past this?

Anyone else ever run into this and know how to get past this? Yes. Turn off the rear power switch of the processor. Unplug power from the Dirac Box, otherwise known as the EDNIB. After a couple minutes, power up the processor. After the processor has been powered up and fully functional for a couple minutes, power up the EDNIB. After the EDNIB has been powered up for a couple minutes, maybe three, check the status in the Menu for Dirac Enable. It should now be working. If the waiting periods for Off Time and Powered Up time are for less time from stated above, your results may vary and the process may need to be repeated.

Hello, Just did a calibration 3.10.3 and when the measurements completed and filters were designed it looked like no corrections were made. Any ideas why?

Hello, Just did a calibration 3.10.3 and when the measurements completed and filters were designed it looked like no corrections were made. Any ideas why? Are you saying no corrections were made based on looking at the screen in Dirac Filter Design ... or by measuring the response of the processor after downloading filters? If you are talking about the Filter Design screen there's a checkbox on the lower right side for Corrected Spectrum

Okay, so be sure that the Spectrum Corrected box is checked ... and can you post a screen shot so I can see what you see. You may want to un-check the Target Curve so you can see the predicted correction more clearly. Also, sometimes the colors of the Measured and Corrected traces are so similar it's hard to distinguish. Try checking the Group Colors checkboxes to change the colors to see them more clearly. And note that this is the predicted correction result - not the actual result - because Dirac has no way to measure the actual result with correction in the room. To measure that, you need to use Room EQ Wizard.

For lgir and anyone else looking at Dirac measured vs corrected .... here are some illustrations ... Thanks for the advice. Like I said I've never used REW, but; my latest calibration seems to have put my L/R speakers out of phase with 3.10.3 for music. The center sound stage was diffused. When I use the latest version 3.10.3 of dirac to process on previous calibrations everything is in phase again.

This beta isn't published on their site, so there are no release notes to easily look at. Might you have those? I'd like to know what's changed/updated. It's not easy to find, but here ya go ... helpdesk.dirac.com/enDirac Live 3.10.3 Software Changelog Features Improved the measurement qualification algorithm to more reliably detect occasional data loss in the recording. To improve the quality of measurements with microphones connected to Windows PCs, WASAPI Exclusive Mode will be activated by default in some cases. To control whether Exclusive Mode is used or not in your case, and thereby override the default behavior, please follow these steps: Click the Windows button, type βenvβ, and hit Enter Click the "Environment Variables..." button Click the "New..." button under "User variables for <user>" (or select DAUDIO_WASAPI_NON_EXCLUSIVE and click βEditβ¦β if it already exists) Enter Variable name: DAUDIO_WASAPI_NON_EXCLUSIVE Variable value "OFF" = Exclusive Mode enabled Variable value "ON" = Exclusive Mode disabled (the old behavior) Click βOKβ Restart the Dirac Live application Verify that it is possible to complete a calibration. Added menu option to refresh licenses so that a newly purchased license can be used without restarting the application Logging Operating System version number information to correlate with measurement problems Fixes Fixed a system error when modifying large ART projects Fixed a bug in ART filter design where the low end of the support range setting did not override the default detected range of the main loudspeaker in a channel group Fixed a crash on Windows and Mac if microphone access has not been granted by the user when entering the Select Microphone view Fixed a problem where the WAV file dump of the last recording was clipped due to conversion to fixed point - it now supports floating point data Several minor UI glitches were fixed on both desktop and mobile app versions Known problems Filter export to devices from Onkyo/Integra/Pioneer take longer time than usual, but it eventually completes. This release will unfortunately not install on MacOS 12 or older. We are working on a resolution of this problem. In the meantime, users of these older systems are recommended to stay on Dirac Live version 3.9.7, available here: artifacts.connect.dirac.com/public/accord/release/macos/diraclive-v3.9.7-setup.zipThe Dirac Live application can crash when selecting Bass Control in a loaded project if the speaker group indexing has changed on the device as compared to when the project was saved. Workaround is to either not use Bass Control with that project or to re-take the measurements. Older Windows 10 PCs may have problems with the app not displaying properly. Workaround: Press the Windows button or the search field, type "env" and press Enter Click the βEnvironment Variablesβ¦β button Click the βNewβ¦β button under βUser variables for <user>β Enter the following: Variable name: QSG_RHI_PREFER_SOFTWARE_RENDERER Variable value: 1 Click βOK". Restart the Dirac Live application. Those are the notes for 3.10.1 which I have read. 3.10.3 didnt have any, but no worries. It is working fine so far. I never could get exclusive mode to work correctly when adjusting it's environment variables - system or user vars.. Would just fully disable my mic/audio interface (ultralite mk5/earthworks M23R), so I have no ides if exclu mode works. Possible it's due to the mk5 only able to go up to 24bit, at least that's why REW won't allow Exclu Mode for the interface.
