For me the version did make a difference. The last time I spent any significant time with Dirac (last February or March) with a USBC Umik-1 I was using Dirac v3.0.x. and had no issues. With mic gain set to 100% i.e. no gain added with the mic slider, my noise floor registered around 40db and my test levels were certainly reasonable. I updated to 3.11 and lost mic gain, ambient didn't even register, where previously it did. I tried restoring to my previous version via Windows Restore but Dirac would crash on startup so I installed 3.10 and everything worked as it did previously, levels were as expected with no added gain via the mic slider.

This is great info!! Thanks! I got my UMIK-2 when I had been running Dirac v3.3.3. This was my third mic at the time, but my first with USBC. It wasn't until early this year that I tried to track how far back this problem was but only went back to v3.3.3 again, didn't go any farther back. So I'm going to try the version you mention.

To be clear my USBC Umik-1 worked as expected with 3.10

Dirac v3.11.0 ...But the UMIK-2 mic has an app called miniDSP-MIK that is specifically for changing the mic gain - and this is really important - using ANALOG GAIN, not digital. Setting the gain at 32dB is the magic number to make Dirac measure as if it's a 18dB gain microphone, which it is but Dirac doesn't see it that way. This version of Dirac is an improvement, not a fix. There's still an issue with USB-C mics not being recognized as having the gain setting they do. I believe the issue is a design flaw by miniDSP because it's not just Dirac that doesn't see the mic correctly, it's also operating systems. But miniDSP says it's Dirac's fault, and Dirac says go talk to miniDSP. I've talked to both companies multiple times and got nowhere. So I now use a Earthworks mics and really good audio interfaces and am extremely happy! +1 I just got a UMIK-2 and noticed the levels were really low in Dirac. At the suggestion of ttocs I got the gain adjustment app from miniDSP (you have to request it through miniDSP support) and set the gain to 32. The levels in Dirac are now very similar to those of the UMIK-1 and the end result with Dirac has been very good. Did you guys also manually edit the "SENS Factor" in the mic calibration file to reflect the gain change as well? This is what miniDSP support replied in response to my email requesting access to the app: "You need to understand that once you modify the gain, it will affect the sensitivity of your microphone and software like REW may not provide the correct SPL for that reason unless you manually edit the calibration SENS factor (E.g. change gain from 18dB to 8dB = 10dB difference = need to make the SENS FACTOR value by -10dB change). Make sense? " Based on their explanation, for my UMIK-2 if I change the gain from 18db to 32db a difference of +14db, my cal file SENS factor should go from -10.21db to -24.21db?

Dirac doesn't look at it so you can leave it alone. If you use REW it's better to set the gain back to 18dB where the SENS factor will be correct. And you would have to go the other way anyway. You would have to add 14dB to -10.21 or 3.79. But again, I'd leave it alone and just change the gain when using Dirac.

I noticed that there was an update to the release note for 3.11 on Nov 11. Here are additions and deletions from the Oct 25 release notes:
