It would be very hard for somebody to compare a 320 kbps file to a CD and tell the difference. However, over a long period of time, I would say one would lean towards listening to lossless files or CDs versus an mp3. It's a very subtle difference but it makes a difference in enjoyment and immersion imo I would think the better your equipment is the more you can tell the difference (although the differences are small). For instance if I’m outdoors playing music through my Marantz SR7008 (a pretty decent for it’s time AVR) on my deftech 6500 speakers is highly unlikely I could hear any difference from a MP3 to a MQA quality playback. But if I’m in my main listing area going through my RMC to my DR-2 to the OMD-28s I can hear a difference (I’ve really noticed it once I bought my bluesound node). Now it’s not night and day, but it’s there.

And as to cds vs streaming, let's see: Stream Tidal HiFi CD resolution (Or up to 192 resolution on Qobuz) 50 million tracks - $20 per month ($12 if military or a vet) for 5 years = $1,200. Cling to one CD per month for 5 years @ say $19 = $1,140 (assuming your cd player holds up). I'd much prefer vast choice, constantly updated on multiple devices to the same old warhorses....20th pressing of Stairway to Heaven? Nah. Not having purchased a cd since about 2008, here's a quote re: pricing: "Right now, retailers, who are benefiting from a nine percent climb in music sales so far this year, have little incentive to drop prices on the best sellers. “If you have a hot new release like Usher, people are going to pay $18.99,” says Clark Benson, CEO of the market-research firm Almighty Institute of Music Retail."

Nothing worse than selecting a file folder and Server says "not found" when it was there last week. YES, I can hear the difference between 320kb & FLAC or CD.
