Update: Just placed my trade in order for the XMC-2, now gotta find the best way to send my XMC-1 from Canada to Franklin So I'm currently on the fence about my trade in if I do go ahead with it, currently I have the XMC-1 and the XMC-2 seems like the best option. Currently I run a Outlaw 7000X that powers my three T1's and two UAC 8.2 rears so while I am using XLR balanced connections they amp is not fully differential like the outputs of the XMC-2 LCR or all the outputs of the RMC-1L. Is there an actual advantage of getting the RMC-1L over the XMC-2, I see some have the RMC-1L and RMC-1 but not sure why, I see Tiffany connectors as an upgrade and of course the modules(when they get released) for the RMC-1 but am I missing anything ?? I do like the look of the RMC-1L more than the XMC-2 but I'm figuring the XMC-2 will cost me $1700 to $1800 Canadian but the RMC-1L will be in the vicinity of $2900 to $3000 Canadian. I don't think anyone here owns both but maybe there is someone who does, I had originally been on the pre-order for the XMC-1 back in what was it 2014 ?? but at the time I didn't have the funds so I did get it for a buddy here(Gave him my place in line) but I did end up getting a used XMC-1 a few years back for a great price so the trade in offer which is already very awesome is hard to pass up on I'm guessing the extra $1300 or so it will cost me is most likely not worth it but thought I would get someone's input here be it an owner of them or maybe even a staff member Cheers, Chad

Prior to that, I looked at that comparison chart over and over again, actually trying to rationalize getting the 1L instead. A friend told me he chose the 1L because he liked the display better and it had better connectors on the rear panel. I do think it looks better but not $1,000 better. Performance-wise they are supposed to be the same. So I ordered the XMC-2 instead. And then rationalized that I "saved" $1,000 so I bought something else with those "savings."

Since you have always made the point that this expenditure is dear to you, I think you'd really have to like the Tiffany connectors (pretty gold thingies in Mrs geebo speak), the dual displays, and/or the overall look of of the RMC over the XMC to justify the higher cost. I think any of us would be hard pressed to hear the difference, except under possibly perfect room, perfect system, perfect source conditions, and even then 🤷‍♂️, but of course I haven't heard the difference. Right now you're probably tempted by the RMC-1L being in stock and the XMC-2 not? I think most XMC-2 owners would tell you that's the way to go as well, if it had been available sooner for the upgrade I might have one as well. Definitely a 2 cent opinion.

I find myself using the controls on the unit much more than I ever did with the XMC-1.

The biggest negative is of course my 40 cents on the dollar, instead of adding another $1000 it adds another $400 plus the 13% sales tax I pay on that $400

But the RMC's control is a joy to use. I have a Harmony remote as well.

On the plus side - it's good to see the financial crisis causing you to sell everything off, and go 2 channel only, has passed and you are back to being able to spend exorbitantly.

In the XMC2 only LCR has the DACs in mono mode vs the RMCs that have DACs in all channels set to mono mode. In your situation (and most others), I personally think you would be a fool to buy the RMC1L over the XMC2. And yes my words are deliberately harsh because I am trying to help you do what’s best for you. Unless you have money to blow or you want to go beyond 16 channels buying anything other than the XMC2 would be questionable. As I have said previously in another forum, WITH the XMC2 and Dirac, when I watch movies, I feel like I’m at a Dolby Cinema and when I listen to music, I feel like I’m at the expensive room at a high end audio store. The XMC2 sounds that good - so why spend more? Also, given the rest of your gear which appear to give a tremendous bang for your buck, going with the XMC2 would continue that trend.

I'd go the XMC-2 route. If they ever get Dirac Live work I may upgrade my XMC-1 though I shifted to a different processor in the media room. It sounds like they are working the bugs out, finally.

I was pretty much 95% sold on the XMC-2 being the best option for myself, but i was curious what my fellow lounge members thought about either of the processors as well, and of course to help me save $1400 or so hahaha. My buddy here just started his upgrade last week, and i missed the last opening by a day or two so now I wait and I've already waited so long it's now making me crazy so yeah lol. Chad

Chad Yeah, I just figure hey, I am saving $2,000 on the XMC-2 by doing the upgrade, then by not getting the RMC-1 that is actually saving $3,000, so that's $3,000 to spend on something else. Now that I think about it, I should have went for the RMC-1 upgrade and then decided on the XMC-2 instead, which would have saved me $4,000. I could have nearly bought some McIntosh gear with that kind of savings!

Personally the XMC-2 is your best option as it is for me and it fill all my needs. Absolutely no need for reference differential dual mono DACs on all channels, only the three front is more than enough for critical listening music sessions. Surrounds channels don't need this extreme configuration, it's overkilled. The rest of unit is the same except for the front plate design and deluxe tiffany RCA plugs.

In your case the price jump to go from the XMC-2 to the RMC-1L does not make a ton a sense. If you were buying straight up with a 40% off card then maybe since the cost is closer, but with your exchange rate etc I can’t see spending $1400 especially since you won’t “see” it being in a cabinet. Get the XMC-2 and call it good.
