I'm thinking about going away from the old UMC-1 and XPA-3 and getting an all-in-one type thing. I only use the 2 fronts and a center, don't really have room for any other speakers at this time. Looking for some sage advice on a good quality but not super expensive AVR type receiver. I see all them fancy Marantz & Denon things with like 11.2 channel crap for thousands of dollars......I drink Busch Light, I don't roll like that. Any info. is better than no info.......or if one of y'all got a piece of gear just collecting dust, let me know. Thanks. Scotty.

My advice would be to keep both, and find a better beer.

The Denon AVR-X3600H is a well regarded AVR for around $1k. Yes, it is 9.2, but think that using only three channels you get more headroom from the power supply.
Something a little higher on the food chain is the Anthem MRX 520, 5.2 AVR around $1.4k
Both have about the same power in 2-ch stereo, ~100W.
I am sure others have their favorites. Your existing system probably has better sound that either one would offer. But if you want to go for an AVR...

Where's the SR-120 you bought ?? I would say if you are thinking of switching to a receiver go with an Anthem like mentioned, the MRX520 would be all you would need if only running three channels Chad

You will lose the control and dynamics of the XPA-3. Not a great idea. Most AVRs today are computers and not much in the amplifier department. How important really is HDMI switching to you. Do you care about TrueHD audio or DTS counterpart. More and more people do the switching from the tv and send an optical out from the TV to whatever they want that takes an optical out. You are running relatively few channels. So the from left field recommendation would be buy a legacy AVR. Even pre HDMI.If you do the switching from the TV anyway who cares if the AVR has video switching or not. You can get a Denon AVR 4800 or 5800, both are chunky yeah but have real power. No HDMI out, or latest stuff, but it does have power. Legacy Marantz SR-XX model receivers are tanks but still have power. None of the new receivers have the power these do. Also these receivers aren't far from the XPA-3 in performance. Okay downside. Yes they are older receivers. But if well maintained, they will last a long time. They were built well. Massive power supplies, real output like your XPA-3. You said one box. Okay I am giving some darn good ones. Not the newest but in sound and performance these still will perform. Other downside no warranty. New has all your newest decoding etc. But the amps in them are a sad case, though the big Marantz and Denon are passable.

Any receiver you get should have pre-outs so you can use the XPA-3 and avoid the receiver's nternal amps. You will get much better sound quality with the XPA-3.
I've always found that the best value receivers are in the mid-range of a manufacturer's line up. Just make sure it has those pre-outs.

Would you be interested in a UMC-200? Are there any advantage's? I personally think the prepro sounds better then an AVR, you’d be able to utilize your XPA-3. The UMC-200 is getting long in the tooth but there are still many serving us well.

Are you just trying to reduce the amount of "boxes" you have or is there another reason (ie wanting 4k hdmi etc)? In my living room I use a Marantz SR5010 and it does a fine job with smaller speakers for surround sound etc. I did just buy some larger Martin Logans so I added some PA-1 amps for those though. I am a big fan of Marantz products in general though. Fairly good amps, but the best thing about them is that they just "work". No issues with HDMI, lockups etc. The built in spotify and airplay etc is very nice. Makes it super easy to just play background music (just open the spotify ap, tell it to play on the Marantz and boom done). That being said it will not sound as good as your XPA-3 at higher volume levels, it just does not have the HP to keep up.

The other is the UMC-1 sometimes does it's own thing....volume drops out, lock ups and the remote is nice but needs its own table to sit on. I'll poke around for a gently used Marantz....I'm just running some old Boston Acoustics VR-30's for fronts and the VR12 for the center.....I might buy a sub eventually.

For me the UMC-200 was one of the most disappointing units Emotiva made, had one for a while and for music I did not like it at all, not sure why but my older PT-7020C4 sounded much better, just my .02 Chad

The MC-700 was also not very good for sound quality imo. Their XMC and up processors are much better.
