For all of the (sometimes EXTREME) effort most of us here put into our HT systems, it’s hard to admit what a fun and pleasurable move experience I once had at a friends house.
We watched a film and heard it through one of those Walmart package Sub/Sat. systems that sold complete for under 300 bucks (I think). I set it up for them as they had less than a clue. Now this was in a finished basement with walls that had that old style ledge about 5 foot up from the floor....just deep enough to hold those little peanut satellites. Fully carpeted with the couch facing a corner and a flat screen. A small area, we unintentionally created an ideal, near field listening situation and got wrapped up in the film very nicely.
Go figure! Bill

Good points all. I’ll often play the Maggies without subs as I’m not a bass head, but there’s some music that demands it (as do visiting bass heads). So it’s nice to have some low end to kick in when you want it, but there’s usually a trade off. I just set Dirac up yesterday on the Maggies and SVS’ for the first time in years, the first music I played was awesome, but one of my favorite recordings and sometimes you just listen.

Glenn, I think the comments by "Jeff Henning" on the Secrets site are inappropriate and way off base. Since when is audio a competitive contact sport?
Good job,
Bill

Glenn, I think the comments by "Jeff Henning" on the Secrets site are inappropriate and way off base. Since when is audio a competitive contact sport? Good job, Bill Hi audiobill - It's a free country & Mr. H. is entitled to his opinion. That's the purpose of those Op-Ed pieces - to express opinions and to encourage others to do the same. And (unfortunately) audio IS and has always been a "competitive contact sport" for some people. "Your stereo can never be as good as mine - my stuff "blows yours away" - you don't know what you're talking about - I'm more knowledgable than you - etc. etc. etc." What I like about this Lounge is that most of us are beyond that and enjoy both the equipment and the music without being competitive. Cheers - Glenn
