It is. I agree with you how some units have persistent issues and others like mine have little to no issues. The only time I lost audio was when I was doing ARC with my LG OLED that usually lasts a day with a new firmware install. Then after I stop using ARC things work perfectly fine. lsc...I think you must be one of the lucky few. I don't use ARC or CEC. I have a fairly simple 5.1 system. I'll eventually go to Atmos, maybe in another house. I do notice that many people have complained that these issues occur mostly with their cable or satellite provider, I have Directv. I don't have this with my ATV 4K or disc, Oppo 203. I literally turn on my system and watch tv on ATV4K or movies on my Sony (piece of crap) 4K Blu-ray player. Then music thru my iMac or laptop via HDMI and it just works. I’m with you that I’m completely baffled. Also I bought my unit the first day the XMC2 was available. I believe Emotiva is looking into the issue.

I just received my XMC-2 yesterday with firmware 1.10 and not 2.0 so with these possible potential problems with 2.0 firmware update, I will just wait for my DIRAC live kit to show up before I attempted to upload firmware 2.0 to my XMC-2. Didn't have much time to test anything out yet but it is hooked up but with just speakers level and distance setup. It seems to be working the way it suppose to work so far. I tried some of the ATMOS disks for quick listen and it definitely increased atmospheric presence with some cool effects. Actually my room really didn't benefit much from DIRAC processing previously so I might just wait for the firmware to be much more stable before I attempted to install.
The only quirkiness that I observed during my initial setup, my Sony 4K player took few on/off cycles to appear picture and sound. Once the video/audio locked in, it had no problem picking it up from that point on. My setup consist of 7.4.4 configuration. The heights channel speakers are on the wall close to ceiling. I didn't want to install in-ceiling speakers making holes. I broke few "rules" of ATMOS speakers layout and I will do some more listening if it is worth while to do in-ceiling installation in the future vs current setup. I traded in XMC-1 to XMC-2 not so much for ATMOS/DTS-X but for better sound quality and additional warranty plus this trade-up deal was too good to pass up.
Hope all you guys having some issues with XMC-2 find the solutions that work for you real soon.

I'm glad some of you have been able to install this firmware and actually use Dirac. I chose to install the firmware ahead of the arrival of my Dirac Kit today. I wanted to "be ready". So then the question: Will my unit begin working normally after I run and use Dirac?

So then the question: Will my unit begin working normally after I run and use Dirac? Short answer is no. The solution needs to be addressed with a firmware update. I don't think anything you do on your end will fix the "no audio" issue requiring reboot. Are you using a cable box? Since Lsc is not and not having these issues, I believe it's related. Dirac is working great for me.

Am using an Arris cable box. I also have a Sony 4k BD player that I could try as my "last used source" and see if that changes anything.

Since you are using a cable service, it more and more seems likely the issue is related. Just know that Emotiva is aware and assuming is working the issue. I also saw mention of trying a Harmony remote to set it to turn on to an unused input and then to the cable or satellite box....might be worth a shot.

If folks are having problems with the audio from their cable service, they should check to make sure that on Input they have the correct HDMI Type selected. I have Verizon Fios and had the input set to 2.0 and was having problems getting audio. When I changed it to 1.4 it seems to have corrected my issue. Has been working since I changed it yesterday.
Worth giving it a try.
EDIT: Should have noted that I use Video Remains On and that the turn on Input is my Cable TV. As an example of what I am talking about, I had done a Restore Settings before turning off the tv and RMC at lunch time. This file had the old HDMI Type setting of 2.0. When I turned on the system a few minutes ago, I got video but no audio. Tried changing the Input with no luck. Then remembered about changing the HDMI Type to 1.4 yesterday. When I changed it now, the audio came on as soon as it was changed. I then backed up my settings. :-)

I'm back to having a very noticeable difference between Surround and Auto using DTS tracks. This seemed to be fairly consistent after selecting Tops a while back. I'm watching The Dark Knight Rises. The intro plane scene is very noticeably more dynamic in Surround mode. Not sure if this is because of the FW or something else.

Am going to try switching from Hdmi 2.0 to 1.4. Will advise of my progress. Please understand though, I had NO problems with any of my settings prior to v. 2.0. In the past I have tried ALL of the tricks/resets power off's/on's. Each and every firmware I have installed (including a few non-public betas) has fixed some things and changed or broken others. This firmware is the only one that has consistently lost audio on resume from VOS. V. 1.0 would lock up but it happened randomly- not every single time I turned the RMC-1 on. (the random loud noises bothered me more).

Thanks

The title of the post is "Firmware 2.0 Not ready for Prime Time" I am using v. 2.0 - the one we have all been waiting for so that we can use Dirac. Very important because our 30 days to return the darn things starts when we receive our Dirac interface kits.

HDMI will never be 100% backward compatible. So setting the HDMI type to match your source pretty much resolves all the issues. Lonnie

Yet another tale of aggravation and frustration with firmware 2.0 on my XMC-2……
Previously I was running 1.10 and my XMC-2 was pretty stable, once and a while I would get no audio when switching HDMI inputs. Any of the three workarounds below would fix the problem: 1. Switch to another HDMI input and then back to the input that had no audio. This worked 90% of the time. 2. Change the HDMI input type from HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 1.4. This was just as effective as option # 1. 3. Unplug and re-plug the HDMI cable from the device that had no audio. Never had to unplug the HDMI input once I discovered options 1 and 2.
With all three of the work arounds above, what I think is happening is the XMC-2 is being forced to request a new EDID from the source device.
I upgraded from 1.10 to 2.0 following all recommendations including a factory reset and rebooting all my HDMI inputs. I restored my settings and everything appeared to be working normally, I have always used Video on Standby in the past without any problems.
Then last night, after watching a movie on Panasonic UB-820 I switched to my Dish Hopper 3 and had no audio, then tried my Roku Ultra and had the same problem. As others have experienced none of the three options above made any difference and the only solution was a XMC-2 shutdown via the rear panel rocker switch. This may mean that the problem is not an EDID issue, but some other new flaw the Emotiva programmers have created. Unfortunately I have not found a way to reproduce the problem, as it is intermittent.
I am very frustrated and have no faith in the Emotiva coders, they seem to use the “Stir Until Done” approach, make some changes and then beta test that code on us. Then see that code has problems and try something else and again test on us, the cycle continues…..

A tip... rather than shut down with rear switch, set your system to low power mode, but then turn on Zone 2. The system will effectively be in standby mode when "off"... the power LED will alternate blue and amber. To do a full shutdown, simply turn off Zone 2 and wait, then turn it on again. It will go through the full restart and you get to stay in your chair.

Thunderduck.....thanks for the reminder to use 1.4 for the cable or sat box. I will do that.
I know it’s frustrating, but I have faith that Emotiva’s software guys will set this right. Glass half full.
Using the XMC-2 as we speak and it sounds better than any previous receiver or pre-pro I’ve ever owned.

Lonnie,
I have to strongly disagree with your statement. All my HDMI type settings are correct and I am still having the problem I described previously. This new “no audio” problem that I and others are having started with firmware 2.0. Please make sure this gets addressed ASAP.

Hanging coming out from Video on Standby is back. It now happens everything I try to bring the RMC-1l to life. This was fixed...sad to see it back.
I've minimized the impact of the hang by removing all video functions from the unit. The only HDMI connection is an input and it comes from the Video Matrix switch.
Hopefully a fix will come out quickly.

Lonnie Hey Lonnie, For example if my XMC-2 is between my 1080p Epson projector and my sources will be a 4K Firestick and a new Mac Mini, I'm assuming I would set the inputs to 1.4hdmi as I'm not running any 4K material even though they are 2.0 capable HDMI devices. I'm helping my buddy set up his XMC-2 tomorrow and I should have mine next week once he grabs it at the border for me. Cheers, Chad
