Could someone please enlighten me for what I hope is not a stupid question.
I have owned my Emotiva RMC-1 , DR3 & 6 channel Gen 3 Power amps since March 2019 and being based in the UK , I am still patiently awaiting the Dirac kit, although I have had a stab at using the REW software which seems to have greatly improved the sound in my living space.
I use the Oppo UDP -205 as my main audio listening source. The main reason I purchased the Oppo 205 over the Oppo 203 was for the much superior analogue DAC chips for both stereo ( RCA and Balanced XLR) and 7.1 RCA analogue surround.
Prior to owning the RMC-1 , my Oppo was connected to my Lexicon MC12 ( unbalanced) using the analogue connections as there was no hdmi inputs at all on this unit. . I own a lot of SACD and DVD-Audio discs ( I have a lot of Mark Waldrupds AIX Records recordings).
For stereo reproduction I have no issues at all, but I am no longer able to use the 7.1 analogue outputs of the Oppo as the RMC-1 does not have this capability.
1. Could the RMC-1 use one of the expansion sockets to house a 7.1 Analogue input stage?
2. If so would that be feasible and overly expensive?
3. The Oppo 203 and 205 have exactly the same HDMI specs, so having paid a considerable premium for the 205, would I be correct in assuming that the analogue 7.1 output stage is sonically superior to the hdmi sound?
It seems I have got a high quality DAC on my Oppo that is completely redundant. I still enjoy the sound through the hdmi of the RMC-1 , but it would be nice to have the opportunity of using the 7.1 analogue stage as a sound comparison to personal choice. Maybe some albums would benefit either one or the other??
Any technical input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend people.
