^^^^^ The above entry quoting me is not quite correct. It was a quote from Lonnie on an earlier poll. I just used it to show where he had stated the $300 amount. All is good.

<simplified version of my earlier question, that others have also asked>
lonnie,
will the xda-1 decode hdcd via toslink? also, same question for umc-1 and xmc-1?

I wonder how this will compare to my fully balanced dual AD1955 Matrix mini-i dac. Also, I'd be willing to bet if you put a headphone amplifier on this of nice quality, you will attract a lot of headphone users.

True. That's what I'd reeealy like, to use with my headphones and replace my current dac/headphone amp combo.

+1, but i didn't see anything that looked like a headphone output on the rendering or the photos. i'm guessing the faint circle to the right of the display is for IR. i certainly wouldn't mind being wrong on this.

Actual pics, specs and pricing coming very soon. just waiting on the cosmetic prototype to arrive. I have an engineering mule, but it is far from pretty. So if all goes well, maybe in another week I can have them for you. Any updates? Lots of anxious people waiting

Not to start a mob or calling frenzy to Emotiva, but a few of us at the Axpona Audio Expo in Jacksonville a few weeks ago cornered Lonnie, pinned him down and tortured this out of him. ;D Lonnie said under duress that the DAC would be out in May. This info is 3 weeks old so take it how you will or just call and ask. If you call and get an update, please share it here in this thread so Janna, Sarah & Cathy aren't inundated with calls about the same thing over and over and over.........................LC

Well, this thread really got me interested in an external dac solution as opposed to networked music via my Integra. I love Emo but don't have a lot of confidence as to how quickly they will deliver the new dac. I wanted to give it a go now so I purchased the Musical Fidelity V Dac. This will allow me to compare the networked Integra against the PC to digital out (Coaxial) to V Dac to USP-1. The V Dac is fairly cheap @ $299.00. When the Emo dac is released I can compare the two and decide which I want to keep.

Also, Lonnie, do you have any updates for us? We're all really excited to see what you have for us so any info you have would be appreciated!

Well I have been a little remiss about getting you up to speed on the XDA and I am sorry. We got in the final cosmetic sample and have been testing and listening to it extensively. First off let me say that the sound quality is unlike anything else we have done before. It is really something special. The discrete output stages in the XDA are in a league of their own. The discrete output stage we did for the ERC and USP as good as they are can’t hang with this thing. The depth and detail in the music is so deep and accurate it is difficult to describe, so I have no doubt you will love it once we release it. Now the bad news. We placed the XDA on top of the ERC (we were using it for a transport) and while we were listening to it, we just couldn’t get past the fact that the cosmetics didn’t match and it just didn’t look right. So we have redesigned the front panel to give it a more family look. Unfortunately this will delay the release a little longer, but all the electronics are solid and fully check out. So hopefully this won’t delay things too much longer because I know many of you have been waiting for a while. I am sorry about the delay but we want you to enjoy the whole experience of the unit and have it match up with all the other gear, so hang in there it is coming.

If there aren't pictures (renderings) it didn't happen :-)
What's the new look?

I am sorry about the delay but we want you to enjoy the whole experience of the unit and have it match up with all the other gear, so hang in there it is coming. We'll need smaller black trim accessories.
