Question; with the volume control on the XDA. If I'm using a USP-1 with it , is the XDA turned up to maximum and all vol controlled by the USP-1?

Yay update! Looks good. And I'm happy it has a headphone jack on it as well. Thanks Lonnie Question; with the volume control on the XDA. If I'm using a USP-1 with it , is the XDA turned up to maximum and all vol controlled by the USP-1? I'm curious about this too.

<simplified version of my earlier question, that others have also asked> lonnie, will the xda-1 decode hdcd via toslink? also, same question for umc-1 and xmc-1? Yes, no problem.

I am sorry about the delay but we want you to enjoy the whole experience of the unit and have it match up with all the other gear, so hang in there it is coming. We'll need smaller black trim accessories. Working on it

ratmice... ...and the old "middle" render version... So, we had 1. XDC-1 renders (full size and smaller) 2. XDA-1 render (below) 3. XDA-1 render (new today and copied above) lonnie - Thanks for the update. Mike Wish granted ;D ;D ;D Final samples arriving right at the end of the month and will post actual pics then. Any actual pics up yet? Estimated release date? I'd love to pair one of these up to a pair of UPA-1's and connect it all to my laptop.

Lonnie,
I've been looking forward to an Emo DAC for a long time now, so it's very exciting to see the progress. I have a few questions:
1) Is the volume control digital or analog? If digital, I believe that would lower the sound quality when not set at maximum volume, correct?
2) Does the DAC remember the volume levels for each of the sources or does it need to be adjusted every time you switch? (I ask that in hopes the volume adjust is analog. If digital, I wouldn't set it at anything lower than maximum)
3) Are there any plans to release a UDA-1 down the road? I already have the USP-1, so the volume control and headphone jack are a bit superfluous.
Thanks in advance.
Grant

I have some stupid questions regarding connecting the DAC to my system... I've never owned a DAC before, but will buy this unit as soon as it is available. I have the following devices, and don't know how I would connect the XDA-1. Your suggesitons are appreciated. 1) Escient DVDM 100 with 3 Sony DVP-CX777ES 400 disc changers - Since my Escient has both CDs, SACDs & DVDs... would I want to use the DAC for Movies?
- If not, how could I use the DAC for CDs and SACDs and not movies?
2) I have a PS3 with Movies, and Music stored on it... - Since my PS3 has both Music & Movies... would I want to use the DAC for Movies?
- If not, how could I use the DAC for Music and not movies?
3) Would I also want to connect my Direct TV to the DAC to improve music audio from XM/Serious stations on Direct TV? 4) Will the DAC improve audio for 5.1 TV Watching? 5) I also have an XBox 360 - How many connections will the DAC support?
- Can the Toslink interfaces be split and work with the DAC to support more connections to the DAC?

But being digital sources, there really shouldn't be a need for individual settings. At this time I am just working on this one. The baby version is down the road.

If your devices have one digital output, then all output would be through it. If you connect this single digital output to the DAC, then all sound comes through the DAC. You obviously would not want to to do this for multi-channel information like movies since the DAC is stereo and cannot decode things like Dolby Digital anyway. If your devices have multiple outputs, like HDMI plus S/PDIF, then connect the HDMI to your multi channel processor and the S/PDIF to the DAC, then connect the analog output from the DAC to an analog input on your processor. Then when you watch movies you watch and listen to HDMI, and when you play back 2-channel music you listen through the analog input. Make sense?

As it is right now, we are looking to release it at 299.00 ;D That should generate a LOT of interest. I think these will sell very quickly. Interesting -- and smart -- to develop the smaller version as well for computer/office setups and for people that don't care about matching form factor with other Emotiva (or other) components. Mike
