How about a discrete output stage upgrade for ERC-1 owners?

So maybe the answer to this is if I have to ask then I shouldn't be buying one, but here is my question anyway: I have an ERC-1 and a USP-1. What would be the signal path if I were to add this DAC, and would all three of these things be good to have or is it overkill? Does the DAC take the place of the USP-1 or do they complement each other?

Also, since the DAC does volume control in the digital domain I would always keep it at full and use the analog volume control in a pre anyways. The dac is supposed to do the d->a better than the ERC, whether it is enough better to justify buying it is up to you.

I guess the real answer is to do like Lonnie suggested, try it out for 30 days. At least the freight will be a little bit less than it would be for returning an XPA-1. ;D Oh also.. so I assume that the path would go from the ERC-1 digital output to the XDA-1 to the USP-1?

ERC-->DAC-->USP-1. They should all compliment each other although it all depends on your system. If your music collection is mainly computer-based then you might be able to forego the ERC and just have the DAC and USP-1. If you dont need bass management and only have one source you could forego the USP-1.

Was looking through emotiva's site today, and I noticed something. The original XDA-1 face was clearly designed to complement the USP-1. USP-1 : The redesign now complements the ERC-1/UMC-1. Does this mean the XSP-1 will follow a "new" design language? will the newer (as yet unannounced) preamp be a better match aesthetically for an all emo system? Original XDA-1 : Redesigned XDA-1

Is it just me, or does the original design look better?

Is it just me, or does the original design look better? Yes, funny isn't it. I also like the original design better.

Is it just me, or does the original design look better? I like the original wide design myself. On the new design the power button is not in the usual place.

The 1,2,3,4 inputs wasn't as descriptive as the type of input on the new design. Both look nice to me. Too bad there is the delay in production.

There are pros and cons to each phase of the design. I liked the almost released design. I certainly wouldn't have delayed production for the newest change.

I'm probably going to look like a fool asking this, but am I the only one who does not see a manual power button?

I can't read what the button next to OPT 1 says though... Me either. That's one reason I thought I might look foolish for asking. I would think if there was a manual power button though, it would look like the power button on every other piece of gear. Especially since it is being redesigned to match the rest of the other gear better.

Maybe it's only activated by source signal. A DAC is useless all by itself. Or maybe whoever drew the prototype forget the power button.

You guys don't think the black button next to the word STANDBY would bring it in and out of standby (just like the regular power button has standby written under it)?
And the input button to the left of OPT1 is most likely AES/EBU, which is for the XLR looking input on the back.

The "button" next to Standby looks more like a light that would tell you it is on or off. It also looks like it could be a sensor, but I am guessing the sensor is actually in the clear screen where the volume is.

The DAC will have the new EmoESP feature. You decide you want to listen to some tunes, and the DAC will read your mind and power itself on.
Mark.
