We are hoping to have it by the end of the year, but that is not a promise.

You're the man, Dann! Sorry if I missed the announcement, but thanks for the reminder. That's one more unit out of the first container sold. Now, here is an example of how Emotiva is a different kind of CE company. Can you imagine a rep from Denon or Onkyo chiming in to a forum with a direct answer about an unreleased product? Not in a million years.

I am also currently holding off on purchasing a DAC as I wait for release of the Emotiva unit. If there is a full size version released, consider one being sold.

Dann, thanks so much for the confirmation!
Since it's in production, can you share the features/specs? (inputs, usb, etc.)
Thanks.

Please stop reading my mind! I little while ago I started planning my equipment needs and decided to go the seperartes route. After researching various amps, I quickly settle on Emotiva. Next, I discover that they have some great spec'd pre-amps coming out so I'm signed up for those too. Hey, wait a sec, what about these great reviews on speakers...I guess I might have to grab those too. At this point, I'm feeling like a weirdo for focusing on one company for so many of my HT needs and then I hear about their new cables, and then while deciding on some squeezebox products, and hearing about recommendations for pairing them with an external DAC, who do I read is promising to build one of those too? Listen, if you guys start selling screens, theatre seats and media servers I'll be expecting bundle pricing or stock options! ;D Okay, now back to the poll. Although I doubt it would happen, I'd love to see both versions of this DAC released. The rack mount for my home and the mini-version for my carPC. Now it's my turn to prognosticate...based on where the DacMagic is priced, I see $149 for the small and $199 for the large!

TCA tried to come out with a more modest DAC. HRT Music Streamer (MS) = $99 HRT MS+ = $299 Both with good reviews at Stereophile (Nov 2009) and lots of advertising penetration online and in magazines. Both of those have limitations, but there is also a list of DACs including a number of under $300 DACs. Mike

Just one optical input? Wish it had a couple more. Where did you hear that? IMO that would be a waste of time! In order to sell, it would need multiple inputs (USB, Coax, Toslink) to be even considered. And preferably more than one of each. Now that would be something that would fly off the shelves.

I think he means he wants multiple optical inputs in addition to coax and USB. From my understanding, it will have just about every hook up possible. I don't think it has been stated if there will be multiple of the same input though.

I assumed the "1)" in front of each input meant one of that type ... hope that I'm wrong ... that does happen often.

Ok so can i use my Ps3 (lossless wave files) or my oppo blu-ray player with this dac thing? I have several blu-ray audio disc and sacds and dvd-audio's plus cd's. Will it still work for my front channels when i listen to surround sound music?

Damn my home theater obsession. I was planning on buying the 65'' panasonic v10 plasma to replace my 70'' jvc lcos. Then yesterday I was thinking i should do a sweet 2 channel setup in my bedroom so i could actually sleep in my bed again, so I was thinking about getting the usp-1, erc-1, upa-2 and i was trying to choose between the usher s-520 or the emotiva ERM-6.2 LCR Monitors. So much that I want with $26,000 a year job

I'm no expert on DAC's, but if it's anything like the Cambridge Audio DacMagic, pretty sure that will pass through any multi channel audio format and only convert 2 chanel PCM sound tracks to analog rather than extract front L+R from a 5.1 sound track etc.

oh i see thanks... Now I'm really interested. It will pass through anything over 96k from a blu-ray or sacd but make my cd's sound better. The dacs s/n level on my av receiver are said to be 117db per channel. So what is the s/n on the emotiva dac going to be like?

Actually, I don't think it's likely to pass through a signal it can't decode - most DACs do not, and I do not believe the Cambridge does (the Cambridge DacMagic's digital loop output is intended for recording devices, as I understand it). If it receives a signal it can't decode (Dolby Digital or DTS, for example), it would normally have no output. To integrate an outboard stereo DAC into a surround system is possible, but a little awkward.

so i would be better off just getting the emotiva cd player? and just use my oppo for sacd's and dvd-audio's and blu-rays
