I was surprised but not surprised that I have had this model for 4 times now. got it yesterday. Pulled out a $8000 pre/pro from Proceed..model AVP2+6 which some say is a Mark Levinson pre in sheeps clothing. It has the upgrades that were pretty costly. well known to sound excellent at everything just old and doesnt have the cool stuff...for sound though..its famous..
anyhow..I didnt read the manual just hooked up the tv to the Pt-100 and put on some Pandora. I didnt adjust anything but the bass. I put that on +10 to see how my T2 emo speakers sounded. reminded me of 70's Sansui...last time I had the PT-100 I had brighter speakers so this a surprise . I tried the stealth DC-1 and it was too bright in my system with the old speakers so this I expected to be less bright but I didnt expect that much fullness in the music. the neighbors probably didnt realize there was a short 70's music concert next door either.
1 thing I like already..I removed 1 piece of gear from the start..that was my Sony universal bd player. I dont really buy movies any more and I was using it for a streamer because it has coax digital out and the tv does not. now I am using the smart tv (sony) and streaming direct from it to the PT-100.
I have been itching to get another xsp-1 cause its purdy and lots of buttons make it seem like serious business ..totally opposit of the pt-100, but as it is there is one thing that keeps me coming back to this guy(pt-100) and that is the ease of use. I can run all the things I want with it. or I can go all the way down to just streaming and have less gear. also sounds pretty good even compared to the $7K pre/pro I removed. didnt do an A/B but what I know already is that it is not hard to listen to. I may need to dial back the bass a little but maybe not but I like it. im still messing with but for the ease it gives and allows one to enjoy its really hard to find fault...except that remote but I will harmony that .
the only thing I can think that is close is the parasound z3pre but Id have to give up being able to stream my tv without adding adtional stuff.
The thing that is killing emotiva is that they have a history now of making nice processors that work but dont work 100% which keeps me back here with the PT-100 cause it only has so much it can mess up and that leaves more time to enjoy. for me only running 2 emo t2 towers and 2 subs this is what i like.

Well yeah, there's that. That's why I like my DC-1. The thing doesn't usually mess up.

As from your other post, if you are not needing multiple channels and running stereo and need the streaming ability and are happy with the PT-100's results. Pretty safe to say you have arrived. Sometimes people over think it when they are already enjoying the solution they already have.So unless you need the DSP modes and maybe the Eq, a Preamplifier Processor is more cost with technology inside that may not benefit your Stereo audio centric needs. It is about what your priorities may be. The PT-100 is focused on a great 2 channel solution only and does not have technology inside you may not need to pay extra for like DSP modes, video switching and Pass through, and multiple channel audio support. Depending on your speakers it is possible for the DC-1 to be lively. I have had good luck with the DC-1, but like everything else it is system dependent, and what you like.

Yeah for me, I am quite satisfied with two channel. It gives me a thrill nearly every single time I watch a movie with good sound. Having said that, I've always thought .... what if? I have heard a multichannel setup which sounded amazing with the movie Gravity. Would I get the same benefit? Hard to say. I like my two channel because for the most part, you can have it exactly your way. You can choose your own dac, preamplifier, amps, headphone amps etc. Most multichannel involves some compromise due to the high price involved. You can still have a good selection but it's harder to get the exact configuration dacs. For instance my DC-1 has dual mono dacs, one per channel and it's fully balanced. You can get one used for about $300 or so. A similar multichannel AVR that's fully balanced will be in the several thousand dollar range, and I doubt that each channel has its own dac. AND the distortion measurements are probably not quite as good as the DC-1...or at least not much better.

I may try the DC-1 again but am in no hurry to do so. I had the Schitt Freya and I almost went back to it and got the "+" but then I thought..is it going to sound $500 better ? dont know without side by side comparison. but as it is now. I can just play the music. and the movies and not think about it.
watched Undergroud 6 again the other day. sounded great in 2.2 stereo. lol.
