This isn't exactly a problem with the UMC-200, but a nuance that involves it. It's mostly a Windows problem, but I'm hoping someone else here has run into this and perhaps has a suggestion.
So I have ripped media that is in a variety of sound configurations. 7.1, 5.1, stereo, etc. I was hoping that via settings on the UMC-200, I could accommodate my preferences for each when playing to my 7.1 system. For 5.1 and stereo, I'd want PLIIx to kick in and matrix the sound out to fill all the speakers.
Well, there's a problem with that. In Windows 10 I need to select what my speaker setup is. If I have it set to 7.1, then apparently it "lights up" all channels regardless of how many are in the source. This makes the UMC-200 always think it's getting sent 7.1 sound (just some speakers are silent). Subsequently, I am not given the option to layer PLIIx on 5.1 and stereo sources. In Windows 10 I can change my speaker setup to 5.1 or stereo and then it works, but I have to do that manually for each movie, and if I have it set to 5.1 and play 7.1 content, those last 2 original channels are "lost" and I only get the faked/computed SBL/SBR channels. Same if I have it set to stereo and play 5.1 or 7.1 content.
Is there any way to have Windows 10 automatically adjust what it's sending out over HDMI based upon the source, so the UMC-200 knows what is actually being sent and configures itself appropriately? I'm using VLC to play the files.
Thanks.
