Does anyone here use JRiver? What version are you running? Has anyone starting using version 27 yet? Do you plan to upgrade?

I'm not sure ive personally realized anything beneficial in several years of upgrading. JRiver is like another company we talk about here every day. They make a product base, they sell it, then they develop features they promise over time. When you buy that upgrade, you are prepaying them to develop their code. You have to decide if it is worth it or not. I skipped this last upgrade because I personally don't think they do anywhere near enough to earn the money every single year. It's basically a subscription service.

I have used it for years and tend to upgrade every other time they do. Many of the upgrades are no apparent to me the way I use the program, but I am happy to buy an upgrade every now and then to keep the program viable.

I only use an older version for ripping CD's. I stopped upgrading when they flubbed one and said it did certain things, so I paid for it. But, it didn't do those things...so I got a refund (which they were VERY rude about), un-upgraded, and will never buy another upgrade from them again.

They seem to be highly arrogant and egotistical. I only use it now because it is a single solution that can provide DLNA and transcoding to numerous different devices. It provides a lot of different functionality if one needs it. For the common user, it is no better than installing some filters and using free software.

The issue I had was related to streaming...v24, I think. And, arrogant and egostistical is appropriate. There was a specific thing I was trying to do in streaming (can't even recall details now), and their website said it did it. It did not. They claimed it did to me in private, then when I explained what was happening for me and asked if I was doing something wrong - they reversed their position and said "we never said it would do that". I pointed out verbage on their wiki and their own version of the lounge in which they clearly said that v24 would do exactly what I could not do. They got snitty with me and denied the info was there - but I showed them screen shots. Then, the owner emailed me saying I should be technical enough to know their software could not possibly do what their own documentation said it could. That's when I was done. They didn't want to give me a refund. I had paid early for the upgrade and by the time they delivered the upgrade and claimed it to work...it was past 30 days, so they said "sorry, you can't return it...it's been past 30 days". I filed a complaint with my Credit Card company and won...refund granted. They never apologized. Mark

My latest issue was the Jremote app, paid for, works well, but doesn't allow you to select different audio tracks of a movie. I personally think this should be a no brainer. They have several people asking for it on their forum. They said they would implement it. Years later...still nothing. They only focus on items that guarantee net new revenue.
