Hi all, I have never tried using the optical connection from the Sony CD player (400 discs) to the Denon 4520, would the receiver's DAC sound better, and one more question, can the treble and bass be used in such a connection?

I’d give it a try, don’t know how old the Sony is, but the Denton looks pretty current and could have a much better DAC. The tone controls should also be active.

Thanks, the CD player is a 2005 model, and I want the tone control on, I will check prices for the optical cable, do you recommend any?

I’ve usually used Monoprice TOSLink Premium because their reliable, inexpensive, and look pretty good, www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=3448I see they now make a Monolith model that’s more expensive and maybe a little less bulky, it’s probably good too. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=34443If you have any Macs they also make a mini to standard TOSLink, I use them as well. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=1557II think the Denon’s DAC will be a improvement, and tones should work fine.

I saw one from Mediabridge in Amazon, I have used coaxial cables from them and love them, would you consider them?

Just got an optical cable from Amazon, KableDireckt, 3 footer, I noticed a cleaner sound, it was less than $7, while I was at it, I connected the Emotiva BTR1 with coaxial cable, not much improvement, of course it might be the signal coming from my phone....but happy with the DAC from the Denon 4520....and the tone control is on....
