Lately I’ve been quite impressed with the quality of echo buds. Anybody has impressions or recommendations of good earbuds or iems to share? What do you think about balanced armatures? Anybody tried noble Audio?

My wife has a pair of the Noble Massdrop IEMs and they are pretty good. Listened to some Kaiser's at the last Axpona and thoroughly enjoyed them but would probably settle for the Savants if I bought a pair myself.
I have had a few pairs of ultimate ears as well but they only sounded good once I put them on the DC-1.
My daily drivers are some Samsung Buds+ for ease of use and portability.

Just got some Drop.com Mee Audio Planamic IEMs. I like them. Definitely better than the Klipsch earbuds and Etymotic ER6. I paid the $75 price not $150. Reviews from people who paid $150 were not good.
I should have a set of Light Harmonic Mera OEMs inbound. We'll see when I get them.

My favorite so far are the Jabra Elite 75 active. The EQ app is actually useful and doesn’t degrade the sound Qaulity. I suggest adding +4db mids, , and -2db bass, +1 db highs. Don’t use the noise canceling it sucks. They are comfortable to the point of not knowing they are in your ears, and stay in during heavy exercise.

Wow. Great responses. I didn't know about any of these - savants, jabra's, mee audio, or light harmonic. I am researching everyone of these. brubacca The Mera's sound really interesting. Please let me know what you think! redogfizbal have you compared the Jabra's against the echo buds? Hair Nick - I'm so glad you two have had experience with Noble. This is my first foray in to earbuds and so the only two earbuds I have tried are the Amazon Echo Buds (love it) and the Sony WF-1000mx3 (not for me). How would you compare the wired in ears you describe to the wireless earbuds in terms of sound quality?

There is a travel trove of many good fun IEMs. Stupid cheap money, makes it silly to spend more, but hey! It is YOUR money. Tin T2s, and the Planars are nice, there are a whole bunch of under $50.00 IEMs that are sounding better than they have a right to. I don't sweat the armature B.S. and the Eludium squeezed out of a flux capacitor before being split by some alien life force. Waste of time for me. I just go for the great sound. If you want to spend thousands, there are IEMs that will float your boat and empty your bank account.

brubacca The Mera's sound really interesting. Please let me know what you think! I have been hitting Drop.com and Schiit to fill out my headphone portfolio. We'll see about the Mera IEMs. I "invested" in the light harmonic labs Geek Wave Project. After 7 years and nothing close to a release they have offered an exchange program for the IEMs. I should be getting (2) Pairs. Although they are disorganized, unresponsive and slow at everything. Supposedly based on others reports the Mera should ship in December, not that I have received an actual confirmation of my submission for exchange.

I've had the quad drivers for about 2yrs, mainly for travel and light exercise. They replaced a really great sounding Sennheiser(don't remember model)that lasted a good 10yrs. If these last as long as the Sennheisers, I'll be happy, as these sound just a slight bit better to, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Sennheisers if these don't stand the test of time. Got these off AmazonWarehouse for almost half of what they usually go for, but they are worth the $169 straight from 1More.

I have however owned the Sony’s, can’t remember the model, the latest noice canceling in ear they make. I have also owned the momentum in ears, and the AirPod pros. The momentum are the most accurate, the apples are moderate at best, and the Sony’s wouldn’t stay in my ears. The Janras are like like owning your favorite pair of headphones, and also owning your buddies favorite pair of headphones, because of the well implemented eq .They are muddy and bloated with the flat eq, but can be made to sound very good.

Is it reasonable to include wired in-ear headphones in this discussion? These would not be the wired ear-buds, but rather actual headphone suspensions (either over-head or underslung) with in-ear transducers? I just ordered a pair that I remember fondly from decades ago, the Sennheiser 44s. I doubt that they perform as well as the best new earbuds, but they have their charm!

I have a pair of Campfire Andromedas which I use when I travel with an iBasso DX80 source + Chord Mojo DAC. Wonderful sound, simply amazing (IMHO). campfireaudio.com/shop/andromeda/They ain't cheap, but worth every penny.

Boomzilla sure wired earbuds are fine. Truth be told, I am trying to figure out how I feel about it. On one hand, wired earbuds allow me to use my DAC and remote control for PC's. I don't think wired earbuds would work for phone use. Has anybody used the Sennheiser ie800s or ie800? jra - those campfire headphones look really interesting! Have you compared it to other high end earbuds?

So if you are looking for highest quality audio, going wired is the best route.

Have you compared it to other high end earbuds? I've compared the Andromeda's with the Shure 535's and some reasonably high end Etymotic earbuds (sorry, I can't remember the model number). There was no comparison. The Andromeda's are the best earbuds I've ever heard. I don't know what they did, but Campfire captured lightning in a bottle with the Andromeda's.
