About to pull the trigger on an XMC-2 and then remembered it's all XLR out. Emo's 2 meter XLRs are a great buy at about $12 but are currently not available. Bluejeans cables are probably great but about thrice the price, with Mogame (?) maybe even more. ProCo a bit more affordable, and Hosa even more affordable. The latter all available from Sweetwater. I would need 7 cables, or 8 if I want to go all one brand and replace the SW cable too. Any experience with these brands?

I would suggest checking out the Monolith XLR by Monoprice. Great built quality for the price: tinyurl.com/y6y4srtp About to pull the trigger on an XMC-2 and then remembered it's all XLR out. Got a soldering iron? The Switchcraft A3F XLR connectors I ordered from Sweetwater arrive tomorrow to make more cables. I don't make them myself to save money, only to make them the length I want.
The Hosa looks fine. Same gauge wire that I use, metal connectors. Don't see any issue and the price is great.

Isn't the new line supposed to come with the balanced to unbalanced converters, per Dan's promise? I believe you just have to ask for them to be included, since not everyone needs them so they don't put them in every box.

Was using custom Mogami XLRs with my XMC-1 and XPA amps; zero complaints. A 2 channel cable and a 5 channel snake. I'm actually selling the Mogami XLRs as we're moving and I'm not going to be ready for a new HT for a few years, so rather than letting things sit in boxes, I figured best to sell them and allow others to enjoy them.
In my new 2 channel system, I went with Canare XLRs, RCAs and speaker cables... again, zero complaints. I didn't go down the DIY route for cables as the price point was basically the same as building my own. Same with power cables, I just picked up some Pangea power cables as I didn't need the stock 6 footers.

Like ttocs I make my own because I want them the right length, and I like a consistent look and less bulky cable (Neutrik and Belden for me). I hate having extra cable crammed behind my equipment (and when they’re a little short that doesn’t work out so well either 🙂). So I’d buy whatever you can find that’s closest to the length you need, not many are really bad.

Exactly... mine have the perfect span between XLRs connections on the XPA-2, XPA-5 amps and XMC-1 as I tried to avoid as much excess as possible.

I use ProCo from Sweetwater Sound. They also carry Canare and Mogami, all good brands with solid connectors. I would avoid Hosa.
A word on length: make sure they are long enough to provide access and slack for easy insertion/removal. I have more than once cleaned up my cable mess with ties and short cables to avoid big loops only to curse myself soundly as I struggled with a flashlight behind the console to free a cable I needed to move or remove to get out a piece of equipment.

Just remember, value is not the same as cheap. Buy a cheap cable and reliability will be the first that suffers. I had an XLR cable fail in the course of my work day working from home where the XLR connection broke and the solder joint separated. Mogami Cable is what I replaced with. Never had any problems with Emotiva XLR cables for record. Cheap garbage cables are just that. Garbage. Get a good cable once, rather than a cheap cable 2 or 3 times later. Notice I didn't say expensive.
