I just received my XMC-2 a week or so ago. I would say 3 out of every 4 times I turn on the processor, it gets stuck at the boot screen (see picture). I have tried the soft shut down by holding the power button and also killing it with the main rear power switch. Any ideas?

Something is definitely wrong, the past 2 boots, the screen is blank, shows nothing on it.

This Is why I am soooo skeptical about getting one.

Well, even though it shipped with the newest firmware, I flashed it. The stick that Emotiva shipped was not recognized. I tried reformatting FAT32 twice, tried front and rear USB ports all to no avail. For kicks I tried a spare stick I had and it worked. The unit did not reboot by itself after the update either, it did power off but just sat there. I followed Keith's instructions and gave it 15 minutes then just turned it on manually. Upon powering on I did a factory reset then used the power switch on the rear to reboot.
The menu was still really slow after the first reboot, hopefully that will go away.
Fingers crossed.
Also, Keith stated units shipping after (some date) in September would have Dirac activated. Mine was not, I entered the MAC manually at the proper URL. It took a day and Emotiva sent a confirmation email but now I have to wait another ~4 days for Dirac to activate. Stinks because I am home alone this weekend and had time to play with it, oh well.

This Is why I am soooo skeptical about getting one. This is why after much thought today I've decided NOT to move on the cheaper XMC-1 they have posted for the Black Friday Sale. Emotiva and their "glitches" with these things scared me off. The thousand bucks will go towards moving in another direction.
As for the original poster......I'd call Emo and get that thing gone. Good Luck, Sir.

I've never had issues with the XMC-1. Rock solid in my experience.

Owned three XMC-1's over the years and never any issues, my XMC-2 had a firmware update issue but other than that no issues, I think it depends on the cables used and the equipment before and after the XMC-2, I only run 1080p so that could have something to do with it.

So far, reflashing the firmware has helped. The menu can still be really slow though, up to 4 seconds to see a change after pushing a button, are others XMC-2's like that? I called Emotiva today and they said that is pretty typical.

I have never heard of a brand with so many issues with their processors.

I have never heard of a brand with so many issues with their processors. We don’t all have these issues. My XMC-2 is used everyday.....using it right now with Directv.....rock solid....would buy this thing again. So much better than my previous Denon and Pioneer Elite receivers.

Interesting about the menu being slow with no active source. That could be it, usually right after booting I play around in the menu with no source on. Thanks

I’m also using it now and don’t even think about usability. Even ARC works so good I haven’t dug for my ATv4K remote. But I don’t doubt the OP’s problems and hopefully all the “intermittent” issues be taken care of sooner than later or be resolved some way.

I have tried the soft shut down by holding the power button and also killing it with the main rear power switch. Any ideas? View AttachmentMine does this almost every time when I do a cold reboot and has since the last firmware at least. It is to do with the VRO setting. I use Video Remains On (High power standby) so it doesn't affect me too much apart from when I get general machine lockups/freezing. I suspect if you just push the power button again, it comes to life! I think it is something to do with the default nature of the machine when you have VRO enabled. If I recall from the manual, the Processor boots up and then is meant to go into VRO standby mode if you have that enabled, effectively requiring you to turn it on twice from a cold restart. If you disable Video Remains On, it may be functioning normally. Having said that, when once it has booted from cold and when VRO standby is all that is used, this issue doesn't seem to cause a problem (Unless it is connected to any of the other ongoing niggles)

The XMC-1 is DEFINITELY more stable and the Processor rock solid! That firmware is finalised and fully featured. If you don't need the additional features of the XMC-2/RMC then the XMC-1 is a safe bet and your partner won't ever need to tut when things mess up and you have to shut down / reboot / change settings / scratch head / apologise / be sheepish / curse

There are many Emotiva processors out there that work just fine. Like everything else you only hear of the few that are less than perfect. Any forum sees a small sample of how anything is doing because most will never tell you how great things are going, but that something isn't right about something. There are flaws with everything that is made from anyone. But for the most part, many products do just fine. It is a personal decision as always how you want to go about things.

There is a correlation though.
Every time someone reports a fault or an error, at least one other person seems to have had the same.
This isn't random events occurring - it is an interaction of design, manufacture, software, genuine gremlins, connected hardware.
Disconnect the hardware and things like this booting up are there - ergo the problem lies in the processor and not something that we can affect

I'm not sure why. My XMC-2 is just as stable as my XMC-1 was when I traded it in.
