Hey guys! I've been an audio nerd for many years at this point, and have followed (and eventually owned) Emotiva since the AV123 days. I am hoping for a bit of collective wisdom from members here more knowledgeable than myself.
I'm a lists guy, so rather than typing out a few paragraphs, here's the relevant info:
As a result of the above, I'm thinking I probably can't really get away with using standard bookshelf speakers for LCR, as the ones I'd like to use (including my Onix Ref 1s) are probably too tall (at almost 15 inches) and rear-ported. I was considering just using 3x C1+ for all three channels, as they're sealed, short, inexpensive, and probably sound much better than they have any right to sound. (We're using an old set of Airmotiv 4s right now until we get settled, and I just think they're great little speakers). I've read around about people using multiple center channel speakers and seen some mixed opinions; some people seem to really dislike the idea, as many centers are MTM designs, while a few people seem to have had genuine success this way. I've dug around the forum here a bit too, but haven't found anything approaching a quorum on the subject.
So what do you think? Would using C1+ across the front in a set of bookshelves work, or should I ditch this altogether and go in a different direction? I thought about trying to snag some used LS50s across the front, as they've had wonderful reviews, but I've never heard them and I'm not sure they'll be able to crank out enough volume to boogie a bit if we decide we want to. I suppose I'm asking if there are other options I would be wise to consider here.
If it helps, we live in Murfreesboro, which is minutes away from Franklin, Emotiva headquarters. Don't know if one can even go there to buy or listen these days, but I thought I'd throw that out there in case it's useful info.
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can give! I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say!

- My girlfriend and I have just purchased a new home this month.
- We're building floor-to-ceiling bookshelves along one wall in the great room, in which will be TV and whatever audio I can get away with.
- SWMBO has a strong aversion to seeing speakers; I had them all over my previous home, and I now have a dedicated listening room I'm setting up here where I can geek out and do some serious listening. As a result of giving me an audio oasis (which is AWESOME), she has decided that she doesn't want to have to see speakers anywhere else in the house. A more than fair compromise, IMO.
- Before you ask: Yes, I love her, and no, I won't kick her out to make room for more speakers. (Not this time, anyway....)
- The plan is to put speakers in the bookshelf alcoves and cover them with speaker cloth. There will be another shelf/shelves for the associated gear (currently an Anthem MRX300 and a few sources), which will probably also have speaker cloth covering them up.
- We'll have to keep it pretty normal and bookshelf-y looking, or else she's not going to go for it.
- I'm in charge of planning the shelves and hiring someone to do them.
- I'd like to keep the budget under $1500 for the speakers if at all possible. The lower, the better, as my full stereo setup scratches all my itches for a higher-end setup.
