I think the thing with Netflix is that you have to look at the long term and not what might happen shortly. Movie theaters are dead. Even before Covid-19 I would rather wait and get the Blue Ray or stream it in my comfort of my own home. Also with Netflix and Amazon becoming a power of content, and now soon Disney too, I think in 5 years maybe or so, theaters will be forgotten entirely. Just to give you an idea, Netflix has standards for which cameras can be used for creating content that Netflix will air. Also Sony on Key model TVs such as the 950H for instance from what I am told has a Netflix profile built in so the picture is optimized for their presentations. Also as time goes on I think VR will make another grand appearance again too. I am already sold on VR and can't wait for more of my entertainment to go that way. Just go lighter and smaller on the device and I am in for good.

Ah yes...These days I Prefer to kick back with my killer surround system and take In a Home movie. You could say I blame that mostly on cell phones that light up like Christmas trees in the theater with people being rude and oblivious to the whole deal. Too bad. I do remember how grande it was Before cell phones and feeling the excitement of a good crowd and a great movie along with their reactions. Back in 1975, I went to a crowded theater with my own crowd about 12 people. We went to see Jaws and it was so much fun like when the guys head popped out of the bottom of the boat people were screaming all over the place! At one point, The girl sitting next to me in the row End seat let out a scream and she was the only one. So everybody wondered what the hell they missed. Turns out this was an old theater with those aisle lights Built into the end chair of each row. She put her hand on the thing which was hot so she got burned and she screamed LOL

I believe the “social occasion” of going to the movies with friends and family is still alive and well. Possibly that’s because we are live theatre junkies and movies are just an alternative of that, albeit different of course. Our local cinema complex is surrounded by decent restaurants and a couple of bars upstairs, so it’s an “outing” not just simply goin’ to the movies.
As for phones in theatres, it’s heavily policed here, turn it off or you get turfed out, there’s a broadcast warning at the start and after that it’s “don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out”.
Cheers Gary
