Probably you can start at $2500 like Gar said. Then probably around 10k, 25k and 50k. After that I will get really tricky to improve things and there are too many factors involved. Nothing wrong with going all the way up or down. Whatever your ears like and your wallet agrees.

Then there is used hi end equipment you can purchase at half the original purchase price..sometimes less. It's a WIN WIN..quality hi end at half cost, reliability, performance AND a noteworthy resale value. Not to mention pride of ownership.

And what if we limited to made in USA or Canada? But there really is some excellent performing equipment from across the pond and in both directions too. So what's the point of limiting it to US and CA?

Price equivalency driven by differential labor and benefit rates. Much great Chinese equipment, but their workers are on a different scale.
So great apparent bargains, but what of long-term repairability and reliability? Perhaps unknown at this point.

And what if we limited to made in USA or Canada? Why would you do that?

I've always thought my stereos have sounded great. From the Yamaha integrated I bought when I was 17 in 1980 to the LS50 Metas I bought Thursday. I'm in the downsizing simplifying mode at present I will be going to new integrated with built in DAC soon. My Linn LP12 I bought used in 1988 I will never replace. If I had a sudden windfall sure I would look for something greater. I'm content though and what I have is great.

You're on the right track, a good outlook As Siegfried Linkwitz was know to often say "Have fun" Listening to the music is a lot more rewarding than lecturing about the gear

All of this is fun for me. If it weren't it would just be plain frustrating. I love listening to music while having fun lecturing (in written form) about gear. (Of course I jest. I prefer not to lecture as much as suggest. It's each person's decision to choose the path on which to travel.) But in the end, it really does need to be Fun!

One... million... dollars. SH*T ! I guess I'll have to play the Mega Million Jackpot. Come on! We all know nobody ever wins that............ Oh wait, a couple I've known for 30+ years did win that, split it with a gal in Idaho, $92M smackers! And for the record, money like that really changes a person. I don't get Christmas cards from them any longer. But then they don't get one from me either.
