You have a Marantz AV 8805 sitting in storage??? 🤯 Also great job digging into this I'm sure you could have done many different things with your time. Yes sir... and while my RMC-1L is doing the job quite well, my 8805 isn't going anywhere. I might find that I have a need for it "if" HDMI 2.1 connectivity becomes necessary and whereas the upgrade for the 8805 > 8805A is already a clear and reliable path. At that point, my RMC-1L might end up in the storage closet. My XMC-1 sat there for nearly 2 years before I felt comfortable trading up...

Thank you for taking the time to dig into this issue. You provide a lot of information that clarifies this issue. I use Plex as well so I can certainly use that App as well. I just kind of like the directness of the HDHomeRun App. Your observations about the differences between the HDHomeRun Andorid and iOS apps is also instructive. As I asked earlier, if Emotiva could provide any details that show where the HDHomeRun app is sending incorrect data to the the Emotiva DSP, I could then take this to SiliconDust for their analysis. They are usually very responsive. If I just report a bug to SiliconDust based on what we know so far they will direct me to talk to Emotiva for the solution? I hope Emotiva will be concerned enough to explore this issue further. Again, thanks so much for taking time to dig into this and add real data to the discussion. My pleasure... happy to help. But to clarify, I'm not sure what Emotiva could offer because the data stream isn't technically "incorrect", it's just simply not "optimized". Apparently, others could see the potential problems with this and addressed it, but SiliconDust didn't. To add more to this, I also have an Nvidia Shield Pro connected directly to the television in my living room (an LG "C6" OLED) and when using the HDHomerun app, and while viewing the same channel used previously, I can clearly hear the same "mutes" between bitstreamed DD 2.0 and 5.1 content as the programming transitions. While they are more brief than what we experience using the G3 processors, they are indeed there and very apparent once you know to listen for them. As with my previous tests, there are no mutes watching this content when using Channels, Plex or when using the HDHomerun app on the AppleTV. In those cases, the audio transitions are seamless and fluid. Clearly, SiliconDust needs to revisit how audio is handled within the AndroidTV version of their app...

Chris... I just wanted to let you know that SiliconDust just issued an update for the HDHomerun app on the Nvidia Shield that specifically addresses this issue. I applied the update this morning and spent some time reviewing the channels I found that demonstrated the original issue and am happy to tell you that the problem has been fixed. Now, just like with any of the other competing apps, the audio never switches away from 5.1 between content and commercial breaks and is completely fluid.

Well that doesn’t help me in Singapore with it happening on fire tv stick and I’m sure on other sources too. Its a bug Emotiva and needs to be fixed.
And the dead audio on power up unless you switch to another input and back too. My wife is far from impressed.

I've been bit by this hard lock-up of the DSP several times now. It's very obnoxious and I hope Emotiva is working a fix. Last night it was from streaming Amazon Prime on my Shield.

I get lockup’s several times a night…every time the unit powers up it reminds me to rethink high end audio…my wife says it’s trying to tell me to too.

This behavior results from "rethinking the high end" lol.

Have either of you contacted Emotiva support directly...? I could easily replicate the issue that started this thread, but the DSP in my RMC-1L never “locked up” as a result of it.
From the lack of “me too” posts that I see here, I would assume the this is not a wide spread issue. So unless you’re willing to contact Emotiva and communicate your issues, they will likely never be resolved.
Returning it and taking your chances with another processor is also another viable option...

Keith already commented on the issue and said they are working to minimize it so it is clear that Emotiva knows about it. I have not contacted them yet as I don't have much to report directly. Perhaps, when I can characterize it more.

Yes it seems to be a known issue…how does one get the beta releases, while I still have an xmc2 to help get this sorted…my wife wants rid of it, frankly after 3 times it’s happened tonight I can’t blame her.

You'd probably have to contact support directly. I haven't seen anything posted so they probably either don't have one or are not widely distributing it.

Dont they read their own forums? No... Not “actively”. This forum is a social space for the owners to meet and exchange ideas and for general discussion... and it always has been. It’s been stated emphatically that it is not intended for technical support from the manufacturer and that the need for any such support should be requested from Emotiva, directly, using the appropriate channels which are phone, email, or by opening a support ticket using the tool found on their website. While KeithL (and others) do visit this forum from time to time, they do not read every post in every thread and likely only read what interests them... just like you or I would do. So if you want an answer to a problem that you’re not getting here from your fellow “owners”, use those appropriate channels I’ve mentioned above.

I’m in Singapore so it’s not like I can just drop a call to support…I’ll email someone I guess.

I have the same issue sometimes using Kodi on my Shield. Setting it to decode the DD+ audio instead of bitstreaming it seems to have "fixed" it.
