Hello, I am setting up my XMC-2 and am looking for any suggestions regarding playing HDMI audio 'only'. I have an AppleTV, a Blu-ray/SACD player and projector connected via HDMI to the XMC. If I want to listen to audio only, i.e. streaming to AppleTV or using DSD on the SACD, I would like the projector off. If the projector is on while setting up the audio everything works fine. However, when the the projector turns off the audio for either source stops. Is there a setting in the XMC that can be configured to eliminate this?

Not sure since I dont have a projector, but do you have the projector connected on HDMI OUT 2? That’s the main output. Hopefully someone with a PJ will respond.

If you disconnect the HDMI cable from the output of the XMC-2 to the PJ, what happens? Which audio mode, sound-field, are you using for music from the ATV? Stereo, Reference Stereo, etc? Is CEC enabled on any device? If so, turn it off. Check the PJ.

Does the projector have a trigger input? You can program inputs to do dual duty, but affect the triggers differently. For example you could have button 1 mapped to input 1, and button 2 mapped to input 1 as well. When you press input 1, you get video and audio and the trigger 3 goes on, which turns on the projector. Press button 2, and you get video and audio as well, but the trigger 3 does not go on, so the projector does not go on

ThaNks for the responses. The HDMI OUT was on 1, I changed it to 2 (ARC) with no change in result. All CEC is off. Disconnecting the PJ power or HDMI connection causes the same result- the input device continues to play with no audio regardless of audio mode selected on the XMC. The projector is power triggered for these inputs, however, disabling this option also causes the same result. It is as if the HDMI connection is cut when power to the video source ends-audio returns when the PJ is turned back on. This occurs with ATV, BD, DSD. This is a bit frustrating as the XMC-1 had analog audio inputs in addition to the HDMI (as did the previous generation of input devices). Now DSD is available by HDMI only, but this seems to include the video power and the PJ fan noise.

This is bizarre, but I’m going to still assume it’s something simple and not that the processor is broken.
Have you tried rebooting.....shutting off the rear panel switch, waiting a minute or two and turning it back on?

Gotta love hdmi edid cec signalling Do you need to tee up a menu for a playlist from any of your sources ? I have seen others just add a small pc monitor to the hdmi2 out for this purpose . If the edid switching is still causing problems maybe a hd fury device can isolate the projector ? Its a consequence of the xmc2 not having matrixing for the dual outs but straight parallel switching as I understand it ; but thats supposition/logic to me ...Its also a good excuse to save your projectors globe life a bit and run a 2nd tele for regular programming if practical

I know if I am playing something on say Tidal on my Shield and I turn my projector off it pauses the music, I either pause it first or just hit play after it happens.

I have now done a hard re-boot, but I still get the same result. I have opted for the laptop via the rear USB port to stream Tidal, etc. this resolves the fan issue as 'cwt' indicates. I notice that playing an SACD (with the projector on) I get the DSD bitstream on the xmc info panel, but when the projector is turned off the xmc display reverts back to PCM/surround with no audio-though the SACD is still playing. This would imply some change in the HDMI signal that is video dependent. I'll pose this to Emotiva tech directly to see if it is supposed to act in this manner.

Use HDMI type 1.4 for audio only. HDMI2.0 demands an active display. Change HDMI type under input settings. If this is IAW HDMI spec for 2.0 or a Emotiva implementation issue i do not know. But this workaround works.

But this workaround works. THANK YOU! This does the trick and per input too. I wondered if HDMI specs could be at fault, but didn't realize the xmc could control that.
