I've been using my UMC-1 for years and it's still rock solid. My Panasonic Plasma display (TH-50UK) needs to be replaced due to it back-feeding over 50 volts to the DirecTV satellite receiver and causing loss of connection to the dish. The DTV technician recommended a new display and I believe him since when the display is off, the DVR records as normal. But when the display is on, even recorded shows lose dish connection. The question is, will a new OLED TV be able to use the older HDMI signal from the UMC-1 at 1080p and function? At this point 4K isn't required.
Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Any 4k display will accept a 1080p signal and just scale it to 4K for viewing. You will be fine.

I recently purchased a 55" LG OLED and it goes along fine with my old Fusion 8100. The latter has HDMI 1.4 Inputs and Output. I believe its I/Os are somewhat similar to those in the UMC-1.
I have my Roku and Bluray player connected to the 8100 via HDMI, the output of the latter going to the OLED TV. Piece of cake at 1080p.
Since the OLED TV has its own apps, you can still enjoy 4k through those. YouTube and Amazon Prime for example have stunning 4k documentaries.
I haven't tried fancy HDMI things like ARC or CEC, though. To pass audio from OLED TV to Fusion 8100 I just use an optical cable.

You can have best of both worlds with that combo. I upgraded from a Sony HD TV to a Sony 4K LCD about two years ago.
I connect the 4K sources like disc player and Apple TV directly to the TV and left HD sources like Oppo blu-ray, cable receiver, and karaoke connected to the UMC.
I then both have an optical out and HDMI arc from TV to UMC for sound from the Apple TV.
As Plan B when the UMC decides to quit on me, I regularly check the used market for the AVM 60 and XMC-2.

Oh, yeah, any 4k TV these days will have at least 4 HDMI 2.1 Inputs. Plenty for direct connection of 4k sources if the pre-amp/AVR is not 4k capable.

More likely HDMI 2.0a or HDMI 2.0b.

(Just so you know). You can also use an HDMI audio extractor to output a SPDIF optical or coax signal to your UMC. This way you can use 4k UHD signals meant for HDMI 2.0+ devices while still using your UMC-1 that maxes out on HDMI 1. www.amazon.com/NEWCARE-Extractor-Converter-Optical-Adapter/dp/B083DDGGZ4/These come in single input and multiple input versions. You can buy an Amazon fire tv stick 4k version for about $30 when they go on sale for prime day and watch 4k stuff

Thanks guys! Late yesterday, I picked up the OLED65CX. Got it preliminarily connected and running about midnight. Wow. Just Wow. Next is M6 mounting screws and optical cable. And that HDMI converter? It just goes to prove that if you can think of something to invent, it's already been invented! The UMC-1 lives on!

Alla four HDMI inputs in my LG OLED55CXAUA.AUS are 2.1 I am sure not all 4k TV have HDMI 2.1, but with the prices OLED TV still command, they better!

Coming from an old Vizio 42" I totally get the "Wow. Just Wow". The picture is great out of the box, but I need to spend some time in tweaking it.

It's up. It's awesome. But, it did take some tweaking.

It's up. It's awesome. But, it did take some tweaking. Glad you like it! Care to share what you tweaked? 😁 There are 6 picture modes. From reviews on-line, I found that if you adjust 1 picture mode it is just that mode that is changed. So, I changed the STANDARD mode. Brightmess was too low. Bumped it from 50 to 70. Contrast was at 100 so, I left it alone. Color was a little weak and increased it about 7%. Temp was fine. Hue was fine. The main issue with the standard mode was the darker areas were completely black. There was detail in there and it needed to be brought out. I viewed about 5 recorded shows and adjusted a little after that. Some shows on the tube aren't adjusted properly by the producer(s). They are probably using an old monitor or have all the windows open in their workspace. Tonight is movie night. I know I will be adjusting after or during the flick.

Thanks! I did notice some black crush and that brightness is set by default at 50. I had not yet made my mind up about being the TV setting or the source responsible for the black crush.
I have not had the time yet to do some critical viewing using a good quality Blu-ray disc or streaming source. Perhaps this weekend.

I'll post after watching a couple of BluRays through the Oppo.

From my 2015 OLED unit, the black crush is a settings thing. It automatically makes dark colors to be black. Turn off dynamic contrast. Put gamma to low. Black Level to High. Motion and trumotion to off. That should help a lot. You would need to reconfigure the brightness and contrast to make it look good after you do that.

I've gotten pretty close and what you said to do, I have pretty much done. Except maybe the gamma. I'll recheck later today and run another few tests.
So, last night we watched Rogue One and Tron Legacy. Never thought about changing a setting while the movies we playing. We saw both of these in the theater and on the old Panasonic plasma. On the OLED, they were like brand new movies! Stunning! There are a pile of movies we need to watch for the first time again!
The only gripe I have is the 120Hz refresh rate. (240Hz with settings) I'm just spoiled. :-)
The 20' Toslink cable is on the way and I just now ordered new crossovers and tweeters for the La Scalas. (B&K Enterprises) Fun, fun, fun!

Update: The OLED is great. Thanks to garbulky, all is well and it took about 5 minutes.
Even better...... The upgrade to the LaScalas. New Crites A/4500 and CT110 tweeters woke up the entire system. I'll find the correct thread and write up a quick review. What I didn't know or expect was the news that Bob passed away in January. His son Michael has taken over the business. I'm still sadend.

I'm thinking something like the LG G1 77 inch...! ....AND THE PRICES HAVE SERIOUSLY DROPPED!!! www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1616598412

I've read your older thread " Garbulky jumps on the 4k OLED bandwagon!" It's comforting to know that my limited experiences with the new unit are not new. My approach to setup is almost identical to yours. I've already reached the compromise on settings that allow us to enjoy the upgrade without tweaking the settings every hour. As with any higher end display, as Keith explained so well, the source and the original content is everything. And yes, the prices have seriously dropped! (The old Panasonic 50" 720p plasma that was retired ran $5k when new.) Update: The OLED is great. Thanks to garbulky, all is well and it took about 5 minutes. Even better......
