XMC-1 to XMC-2 Upgrade benefits?

I have a refurbished XMC-1 (7.2 channel) hooked up to a Monolith 7X200 Amp. and 7 JBL-ES100 speakers. The XMC-2 is a 16 channel processor, is there any advantages to upgrading to a 16 channel processor (I'd like to keep my existing 7.2 channel Amp / speaker configuration)? Is it possible to feed the 16 channels into 7 - 8 for better separation? Thanks!

No these are discrete channels. Unless you plan on adding more speakers and corresponding amps, you are all set.
