Let me think about this, I have a nice 180g pressing, an SACD, a cd, a hirez file, and a blu-ray audio of KoB. Apparently I have used the record to try out every format that comes out. I did not even realize that. So, I think I am good.

Is it the mono or stereo version?? It’s a stereo and they are using the same Bernie Grundman mother stampers based on the mid 90s project done off of the original 3 track .. These are special because of the quality of the original 3 track tapes and there basically no equalization done in the mastering because it sounded so good. Only difference is they are pressing the mastering on 200 gr UHQV LPs so.. it will be a much quieter background over the previous Classic Records issues previous to this one. Being I only have a couple of 70s Columbia pressings (and they sound pretty good). I’d love a copy like this. This beats trying to buy any previous Classic Records reissue that sell for 200 on up. Later this year they will issue as a double disc 45rpm. Using the BG remaster from same mid 90s mastering Also— this was an an Tube mastering. According to discussion here: youtu.be/KfCtRtJkUss

How much better can this sound? ? In this case.. better because of better vinyl... they are using the 90s mastered tapes done from the original 3 Track session tapes (Classic Records). Also they are using a much better press. So yeah.. basically the differences will be based the method of pressing and super duper vinyl. There is an interesting video on youTube. They get into a lot of detail on how they maximized the quality of vinyl and pressing techniques to get everything out of way of the near perfect quality of Grundman’s 90s remaster. I have a link in a previous post on this thread. Those Classic Records LPs are very expensive now.. so a 100 dollar LP almost seems cheap. I have two early Columbia 70s pressings of this LP. They sound really nice.. but the vinyl is a bit noisy. I have a 1980 reissue and it isn’t very good (a couple of scratches. So yeah, I’d enjoy having a copy from AP.

The best? I bet that has so much to do with my turntable set up and dac that the confounding variables would provide too much noise to accurately say. MAYBE the SACD and blu-ray sound a little different with the former being a little more smooth and the latter a little more incisive. Maybe. One thing I do know is that the music is awesome and the timbre of the instruments is spectacular. One of those great music great recording rarities.

Trey The first time I heard kind of blue was on Cassette. It’s a work of art for sure .. i think it sounds great no matter what the medium. Getting this particular issue is more of a collectable, yet I’ll play it often. I enjoy the vinyl medium,, but play it on CD as well
