So, I've decided to jump into the Emotiva market and purchase a BasX5 and and XMC-1 refurb. Use is for basic 5.1 home system for pure entertainment (Mac mini, Rega turntable, Apple 4k TV etc.) What am I sacrificing (if anything) by this purchase versus say a Marantz SR50515 or NAD 758 v3i?

Jump in! You will be way off better with the XMC then either of those two offerings from Marantz or NAD.
You will need a phono preamp to connect your turntable (EMO has you covered there.)

The XMC-1 is a top audiophile quality pre/pro. I don't know of anything at the price or 2x the price that can beat it.
The Burr-Brown DACs are very good
The 2-ch circuitry path is top notch
Nothing beats Dirac
Find I'm using Direct mode more often for surround- that's how well it decodes and delivers great sound.
I want to add the BasX A2 to the XMC-1 for Zone 2- it's a variable output, no need for a second 2-ch preamp
The only complain I have is it's lack of operation remotely. It's not a weakness of the unit, but lack of an Emotive app for android/iOS.

I do not know. I have the app from the Emo member, years old, on a Samsung S5 used a remote for all my A/V equipment. |

Thanks! XMC-1 and BasX5 are on the way. I've owned a both a Marantz 7701 and XMC-1 at the same time and the Marantz could not come close to the XMC-1 for dynamic, detailed, open and clean sound. They are true performers, I'm a really big 2ch guy and the XMC units are very very good IMO, they are intended as a surround processor but for 2ch use the XMC really performs and especially given what you can buy one for.
