I absolutely agree there... and, when I have the chance, I prefer to listen to music in the dark.
However I would say that this has a firm basis in psychology... Removing the visual input removes distractions... allowing us to focus more of our attention on the music...
And, assuming a good system, and good quality music, this allows us to hear and notice more of the finer details of the experience... (Of course, by eliminating the distractions, you're also probably more likely to notice flaws as well.)
Lighting doesn't improve the sound, but it doesn't hurt it either. And for many, good aesthetics improve the WAF. So in general, I'd argue that a sense of aesthetics is not inimical to good sound. Boomzilla Interestingly, I have found that my system sounds better in the dark.
