I made two LP racks yesterday using this DIY article: johnvantine.com/i-built-a-vinyl-record-shelf/My buddy is an excellent woodworker and he helped me out with the cutting and assembly. The cost in materials was about 110 bucks for making two of these. Used two sheets of cabinet grade plywood vice construction grade, so the cost was a bit more. Used screws and wood glue instead of nails, so it was a little slower going because of predrilling and countersinking.. still need to apply wood putty over screw heads and put on some sort of finish. These will easily accommodate all of my LPs.

Most of my LP’s fit in the base section of an entertainment center unit kit that I bought and assembled. The cool part however, were the paneled walls that were ledged about 4 feet up. So, I could spread out maybe 30 or 40 of the most frequently played albums up top and keep the rest below in the unit. Hard to believe I’ve been away from that medium for around 25 years!

Those are Zu Omens (the latest Dirty Weekend Specials). Zu Audio. Thanks! Yes I saw part of one of his videos along with Gutenberg and another. They underscore the most important thing of all. You’ve got to find a way to listen. Right behind that; the ballpark on what you have to spend. Last but not least the room. I still maintain the space and acoustics are the least understood part of the whole deal. The more you can raise that level of understanding the better you’ll end up in your space. Listening to some of those guys talk after a while can be really painful.

The reviewer in the above videos Jason was just over my place this last Saturday. Very much enjoyed his personal company and advice.

(You have an “edge” most decidedly) did he bring anything over to test?

(You have an “edge” most decidedly) did he bring anything over to test? Naa, just his ears and discernment. Can't wait to hear some of his gear in person. I haven't any direct tube listening experience or vinyl so I can't wait!

Yes, I use lots of (cherry) edge banding, and the 3/4” width like you linked usually doesn’t need to be trimmed like the 13/16” or 7/8” you often see, just a light sanding will give a nice finish with 3/4” plywood (which is actually 23/32”).

Home Depot sell 3/4" wood edging that fits well with minor sanding. Hand plane the edges, lightly sand then use pin brads & glue to fasten.

Almost done I’m not too worried about the edges. Nothing fancy here. Maybe next one I’ll play around with more. Also… save a lot of time and energy.. paint or stain prior to assembly. It would be soooooo much easier

Lesson learned: stain or paint everything after the wood is cut… would make it very easy.. and just a little touch up after assembly.
