I assume the RCAs are shorting pins? What about the XLR and HDMI, do they have any electrical connection? I notice you seemingly have two types of XLR covers (balanced ins have a swirl), do you like one better or just availability? Possibly the swirl XLRs are shorting (inputs), and non-swirl are just covers (outputs)? I can see Mr geebo on his knees presenting a box to Mrs geebo , she expects earrings or maybe a special anniversary ring, but no, even better, more gold thingies!!! The next special occasion he hides the box under her pillow, the possibilities are endless! 😆 … also HDMI 3’s cover is upside down, could you please fix it before my OCD causes me to throw my iPad out the window 😊 Could be wrong but I don't believe these covers are shorting pins. Its my understanding such gold thingies are there to prevent EMI/RFI from entering into the unit and thereby degrading the sound. Don't have any experience with them but do remember reading about this a few years back. Perhaps it was Cardas that instigated the use of such gold thingies covers. I would like to know however in this day and age where these thingies might be had if still available. www.musicdirect.com/accessories/cardas-xlr-caps-female-prwww.amazon.com/AudioQuest-RCA-Noise-Stopper-Caps-pack/dp/B00447ZOCEA couple of places.... www.crutchfield.com/S-osliamFEurX/p_703RCANSC/AudioQuest-RCA-Noise-Stopper-Caps.htmlThere are much cheaper generic brand ones als if you search Amazon.

I think I bought all of them on ebay and Amazon except for the HDMI Oehlbach brand which were originally the only HDMI ones I could find however Audioquest now has HDMI caps as well. You can find them on ebay and Amazon as well as from Cardas and Audioquest. Except the Oehlbach which I ordered from an supplier in Europe. The HDMI's were very hard to find when I first started using them. Prices on ebay and Amazon are far better than from Cardas or Audioquest with ebay being the lowest.

As I think about it one has to wonder how effective these caps are. After all virtually any and all components they would be installed on already have vents on their casings which would theoretically allow RFI/EMI to enter assuming these gremlins were going to do it in the first place. Just a thought.

Just a thought. I’m not arguing for these cover’s use or effectiveness, but the inputs are where the internal circuitry is ‘exposed’, where the smallest signals are designed to get into the system. Vents will probably find a shielded cable, cage, or other protective device designed to minimize interference. I think the covers look cool and might use them as RichGuy describes, to cover unneeded/unused inputs and make it easier to find an input your looking for when you’re reaching around the back. I think it’s possible some sophisticated test might measure a difference, but doubt it would be audible. I’d be interested in KeithL ’s thoughts on using shorting pins on unused RCA and XLR inputs. I know they’re used for testing, but any advantage or disadvantage to using them all the time?
